I’m looking to pick up a 16-35 having recently moved over to FX.

Searching the internet seems to show that a lot of people aren’t happy with the lens due to issues, qc, decentering, softness, etc. Most of these posts are from release to 2013/14. Nothing really recent.

Looking for input from people who have purchased one in the last few years and if they are still being produced with issues.

Have you considered the 18-35mm G? That’s decent

I have one and rarely use it - I find the 20mm F1.8 better in terms of colour rendition, size and sharpness edge to edge is vastly superior.

It's not a bad lens the 16-35 but the distortion, corner softness means I cannot recommend it knowing the 20mm F1.8 is the one for me as is the Sigma ART 24 and 35.

I keep mine so I can lend it to under equiped workshop clients along with my old battered D800

I owned a couple of them and wasn't happy. One was from 2010 and webt to Fixation to try and solve its problems. They thought it was a manufacturing issue and thought Nikon would fix under warranty but Nikon said it wasn't. I had a long discussion with the Fixation engineer and he 100% thought it wasa manufacturing fault.

Lost money on it, bought another and it was worse.

Soft in corners and also soft down the entire right side. Both were worse than my ancient 17-35 F2.8 that was donkeys years old and cost me around £350 used.

The 16-35 was the final nail in the coffin for me with Nikon and I swapped systems - by god the 16-35 I have now makes me smile whenever I go into lightroom and look at the images :D

Canon or Sony? Lens wise I think the Canon one is supposed to be better and the G master Sony is a very new design so suspect it also will be good.

I like the 20mm F1.8 - lovely little lens and pretty sharp all over.
