hi guys

Looking for some advice , I am thinking of buying a super wide angle.
I have always thought it was going to be the 14-24 but recently i have seen a few reviews on the Tamron and it seems to be a real contender for less money.

so my question is Used Nikon 14-24 at aprox £850 or a new Tamron for the same money ??

used nikon overtime - and they hold their value really well if you don't like it

fair point on value , but from what i have seen the Tamron is holding it's value at the moment..

Tamron looks good, but if you can get a good deal on a used 14-24 at similar money then go for that

You'll can sell the nikon on again for pretty much what you paid if needed. All the sigma / tamron lenses seem to sell second hand for a lot less than the new price, certainly after a year or so. Not to say that they arn't good lenses though.

Looks like all the thoughts are for Nikon .. But does anyone think the VR on the Tamron is a game changer??

What will you be using it for?

@gramps i shoot a lot of live music and portraits etc..

Ah ok, then VR maybe useful to you ... many would be using the 14-24 for landscape and probably on a tripod so VR would be irrelevant.
Personally I would say that the 14-24 is hard to beat for image quality :)

14-24 has great IQ and in my opinion is better optically than the Tamron.

Thanks guys gonna see if anyone is renting the 15-30 and see how it compares ...

They say this, but the issue comes with these expensive filter kits you need to buy for them. IIRC the Tamron has the same issue.
