I haven't used one but it is on my wish list as it is supposed to be a cracking lens.

Biggsy, love that first shot, the colours are superb.

Yeah, I'm really pleased with that one.

It was taken within 2 hours of picking up the lens. I was in the greenhouse as the weather was naff taking a icture of a plant and just as I'm about to shoot, this tiny fly landed. Took around a dozen shots, all slightly out of focus except this one, the first one taken.

Here's the full uncropped shot.

We wouldn't be without ours!

Word of warning - it's far too sharp for portraiture!

Example of some hand held stuff --- Clicky here

The warning from chuckles...........me being a learner,is sharpness to be avoided with portraiture as I understood the lens in question can serve both purposes both macro and portraiture

I totally agree with Chuckles, on all counts.

Simply superb lens.

It really is a razor sharp lens. If you want biting clarity in the face of a wizen old man - go for it! This will pick up every pore, crease, wrinkle and whisker. But, it will do the same for a 25 year old lady!

Don't get me wrong. It is good for portraiture but it won't give you that softness some people look for in a portrait. That's why we have photoshop.

It is amongst Nikon's finest.

how good? i've been looking at the 105 F2.8 EX DG as my macro lens so i'd appreciate your feedback

it's to fit my sony alpha 100...

I'm pretty pleased with mine. It doesnt have to be used for macro all the time though. The AF is relatively slow though. Some samples:

Some more macros here

HTH. I assume the Sigma is available in Sony/Minolta mount?

thanks joe

some great shots you have there.i only want it for macro work,so i assume the AF speed isn't so important .

it is available for the sony/minolta mount,as is the tamron 90mm F2.8 DI macro...very similarly priced.which would you say is the better option?

might have opted for the sony lens, but very much out of my price range.
