Nikon 105mm F2 AF-D DC or Nikon 105mm f2.8G AF-S Macro VR

I have the G version and I love it. Very sharp and accurate. I use it mainly for Macro and sometimes for portrait.

For?, although the focal length is the same they are very different lenses, with very different uses. The DC is no use for macro but as a portrait lens nothing (IMHO) gives images like it used well.

Equally the macro lens is useless is you want DC

This is what I like about the G version, one can use it for Macro and portrait with amazing results. May be not as good as the DC lens when it comes to portrait but as above the DC does not offer Macro.

I'd go with the 105 VR, you get more versatility and the VR is more useful than the DC.

I have both those lenses (in fact I'm selling the DC in the classifieds).

The macro lens is a stunning macro lens. The portrait lens excels at portraits. Kind fo what you'd expect really
