hi guys. After a recent thread I posted about macro lenses, I decided to go for the sigma 105mm 2.8, but I'm not going to buy it until I get paid so I hired a macro for a couple of shoots this week. (I will be using it for newborn details - lips, eyelashes, fingers, toes)

They only had the Nikon 105mm 2.8 available for hire and I received it today so I've been testing it out. At the moment I'm not seeing a massive difference between the results I'm getting from the macro, and the results id usually get from my 50mm.

I use a Nikon D3200 at the moment, can anyone confirm for me what I should have the lens set to (the toggles on the side of the lens) M/A or M, FULL or -0.5m, VR on or off.

Are there any other settings I should adjust to get the most out of this lens?

And is the sigma macro as heavy as this one?

You won't see a massive difference unless you are using the lens to do something different... i.e. close focus macro. There are no "correct settings" for the switches other than you will want to turn on VR if handholding and the SS is lower than ~ 1/500... I would probably have it set to M/A, Full, Off, in general. I have the 150mm and it is a heavy lens, I'm pretty sure the 105 is as well.
