Just been looking at the Nikon V1 at my local LCE store and it certainly has a quality feel to it. The rear LCD seemed very good quality and the colour EVF was far better than any EVF I have seen before.
They did not seem to have the 10mm prime based kit, only the zoom based kitbut they hope to have the prime kit in soon.
I've downloaded some sample NEFS and the quality seems pretty good and it has the advantage that I can use ViewNX2 instead of things like Silkypix (which comes with Lumix m43 cams for example).
I'm not sure why so many people say they "don't like it" before even actually seeing it for real.

I work at the Nottingham branch of the London Camera Exchange.
We had our Nikon J1 and V1 arrive on the 20th, we also received a 10mm prime lens for them.
Having had a few hours to experiment with the V1 I found it to work extremely well. The video mode on the slow motion mode was amazing.......
