Nikon 1 Series (V1/ V2/ J1 etc) owners thread....

I own a j1 and I have a Golla Camera Bag S Nolan. It holds my J1, plus 3 lenses, 10-30mm, 30-110mm and the 18.5mm f1.8. I also have 3 close up filters, an nd filter, a CPL, two spare batteries, Gorilla Pod Micro 800, lens pen, cloths and a remote, all in one tidy little package.

Thanks ill take a look at that one, how is the 18.5 lens? Thinking of buying but is it worth £180?

Dave 1 if you have trouble with high iso quality, can I suggest turning noise reduction off and shooting in RAW. Post process your images in Light Room or Capture NX2. The noise reduction really kills the image quality on any thing above ISO 800 in my opinion, on the Nikon 1.

To be brutally honest it all depends on what your expectations are. It didn't cost me £180 as I got it for my birthday recently :-). But yes I do like it, though if it was f/1.2 it would be much better. The low light performance is good, bokeh could be better but you have to accept the limitations of a 2.7 crop sensor.

I can't wait for the 32mm f/1.2 lens to come out. I have a cheap CCTV lens a fujian 35mm f/1.7, and the bokeh on this is very prominent, just a pity it is manual focus only, no light metering, and IQ is lacking a bit ( yet surprisingly good for what it is)

I will post some sample photos in a a bit

Anyone brought the V2 yet,thoughts,seen some good reviews,and i really like my V1 :)

And to add to that as Simonblue asked earlier has any one tried the V2?

How do you find the menu system. Is it a faff to change settings or is the camera better left on its own devices. Also is high iso/low light a problem. I must say I have been more and more interested in tgus camera after ignoring Kai and digital rev! It is really between this and the gx1, and the cashback offer ends tomorrow.

I don't find the menus to be a problem in use, all the common ones are in one list (1 for shooting, 1 for playback etc), so it's just a case of press menu and scroll up or down to the required setting.

I'm thinking of selling my X10 and buying the J1 twin lens kit for £270.00 from Jessops (price after Nikon cashback)

I think you may have just emailed me on Flickr
I find that the j1 is better for me.
Autofocus is faster and iso is usable up to 3200 with post processing.
The only down side is the lens aperture but this can be countered by raising the Iso

I use the V1 and the settings are fine really, I usually keep it in aperture priority anyway but if I do want to change it only takes a few seconds. I really dont know why they didnt include it on the mode dial; it has so much space, theres like 4 symbols on it and theres room for at least 4 more even if they were just AP, SP, P and M it just doesnt make any sense to me and to not do it on the J2 either is just ludicrous.
High ISO isnt a problem really, low light can be because of the aperture of the kit lens, I do like the way you can auto ISO up to 400, 800 or 3200 though I think thats really good although most of the time it automatically chooses the highest number anyway so I only usually use ISO 800. I dont really understand what Kais issue with it is (I think the review was poor in general really) although he did raise some valid points; the grip can be annoying and I think some of the modes are a bit of a gimmick but still fun.

One thing ive found, most photos I take with it are good; im not sure why, maybe its because of using the LCD screen to compose photos or whatever which means im more inclined to use different angles and stuff. But im very happy with the photos it takes, very happy. Some are a bit grainy but it adds to it I think and the colours are superb. Lastly, the bokeh isnt great but it is good, the background wont go too out of focus but it does enough so its not over powering or distracting, its certainly very different to the 35mm f1.8 :p

personnally i think the ISO is usable up to ISO 3200 (subject dependant) if you post process. Both images taken with the 18.5mm F/1.8 the first is at ISO 400 the second is at ISO 3200

It's up to £250 now, still a complete bargain. Should be receiving mine at some point today. Bought the 18mm 1.8 as well. Looks like a cracking little lens.

The 18mm really looks like a good lens, just when I'm cutting back on gear this sort of temptation appears :nono:

Had a nice little surprise this afternoon, after saying that I wouldn't receive the camera till tomorrow I had a email from reception saying that I had a parcel. Battery is currently charging. Really impressed with the build quality. Can't wait to turn it on and have a play later.

Can't wait to see some images. Went into Jessops today but they had sold the one they had. Thwarted again to see one.

Anyone know of the best place to get the f1.8? By best place I mean cheapest place :D

Well it's been on, I haven't got a SD card with me so I can't really do much. I'll say it again, I'm really impress with this little thing. I think (hope) the weathers going to ok at the weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to take it out then.

I was in Currys earlier, they had a couple at £350 if you want to have a play.

I paid £178 from Amazon. Most of the other places I looked where out of stock or want more for it.

Took delivery of a white V1 today with the 10-30 and 30-110mm twin lens kit. Also came with a spare Nikon battery, 16gb class 10 card and a couple of uv filters. Boxed and unused from ebay for £385. Pretty happy with that and also happy with the camera, seems a nice bt of kit from the little play I've had this afternoon.

Great price, I'm still looking to see if Jessops drop there price on the J1 twin lens kit at the moment it's £270.00 after the £50.00 cash back.

I have until 21/01/2013 then the cash back ends.

It seems to go up and down almost weekly, it was £279 before cash back a few weeks back. I've seen at least 3 or 4 prices in the last month at Jessops.

I know I missed that price but I got told about it, that's why I'm holding off and checking prices daily.

I've returned to the Nikon 1 fold having foolishly sold my last V1 outfit.

I really missed the lightening fast focussing and electronic shutter which were great for group shots and action pictures.

I watched the prices dropping and then noticed my local store had one left with a 10-30 lens. Just need to buy another 30-110 and flash now :(

I'm tempted to move on from the j1 to a v1

Apart from the viewfinder is it worth the move?

I already have the 10-30 and 30-110
