Nikkor portrait lens advice

I think a 70-200 f2.8 would suit your requirements best. You must have felt the 85 is not right since you sold it, and the 70-200 is incredibly versatile. I use the 85 1.4D for portraits quite often and they can be had for pretty cheap but the 70-200 often looks as good and is far more versatile. My friend recently got the newish tamron sp 2.8 VC which on first impressions seems very nice and possibly better value than the Nikon VR1. I haven't tested enough to verify this but its worth a look.

Yep, saw that the sale had been cancelled. Whilst maybe frustrating for the buyer I think it was a wise choice all things considered.

Yes, that's true.

I've bit the bullet and ordered an older (minty condition) Nikkor 300mm f2.8 AI-S lens for motorsposts/landscape/wildlife/portraits, should be with me tomorrow.

Loving my 300mm f2.8 lens but I'm on the lookout for one of these, can't make my mind up; :help:

Nikkor 105mm f2 DC -- Nikkor 135mm f2 DC -- Nikkor 70-200mm f4 VR, any good deals on the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 VC anyone know?

I picked up a mint (would pass for new) Tamron 70-200 vc last week for £550 on the bay. Delighted with it so far.

Use the 85 for some more time and see what you are missing, then buy the one you think you need. Just shot a few frames of my daughter and her cousin sister with the 85 1.8g after fine tuning. They look lovely, may post later on the D750 thread. Although I have a 12 inch laptop for editing and it is too small with LR [emoji34]

5k 27" iMac FTW :D

I was impressed with the 85mm f1.8g for the short time I had it before returning it for a fault. Really nice rendering. Shame I don't get chance to do portraits, I'd use it all the time if I did.

Nice monitor. I use a 23 inch LG IPS at home, but while on holiday, I am stuck with a 12 inch laptop that is not even colour corrected :(

There seems to be a bargain priced 135mm DC on Amazon, (£560.00) by the looks of things it's an ex-display item. > http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00006I5J4/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used
I'm quite cautious about those "Ex-display" items. I've been following them quite a lot recently, and the name of the seller seems to change on a daily basis yet the item and cost stays the same.

I mean, there are over 900 items in the shop, how many items do you need for "advertising purposes"?!

For example, they've got a Tamron 70-200 F2.8 for £470... I can't help but thinking it's too good to be true.

Peter @macvisual , here are two shots I took with a fine tuned 85 F1.8G on my D750 today. The 2nd one is a cropped version of the first one. With a D810 and its cropping power you can get terrific images even if you crop. Of course the 135 will have a different field of view the 85 can't match like for like, but you can give the 85 a try. I love this lens.

Better than the 'no computer' I go travelling with ;)

Seems as if the lens has gone now!

What is the protection with Amazon, I thought they act as the merchant then send money onto seller? do they offer the same type of cover or better than Paypal?

I don't know, but the seller who was selling all those electrical goods has now disappeared as expected. This is the actual website of the seller - https://silver-treats.co.uk/

I don't know how, but it looks as though Amazon Storefronts are being 'hacked' (for want of a better word) - definitely one to avoid.

Does look like a hacked account, there was a similar one for a 400mm f2.8 lens on this forum a few days ago, but that one was from ebay. Hope no-one has got stung, especially of this forum.
