Yes
I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this........

I have a Nikkor 85mm f1.8 D AF which I don't use any more since I purchased
the Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 G AF-S ED but it annoys me that the 85mm is just
sitting there doing nothing, I am so over the moon with the quality of the
24-70 that it never gets taken off the camera (D90).
I could put it on my D5000 but as it has no in camera focus motor and the 85mm can be a bit difficult to focus manually.
I guess some may surmise that I should put the 24-70 on the D5000 and the 85 on the D90 but I don't want to do that.

The 85mm (135mmDX) is a very good piece of glass with which I have had some amazing results notably, portraits.

My question is:
What should I do, should I sell it or keep it, I think that it is almost a crime letting
the 85mm sit in a drawer doing nothing.

MTIA........

I'll give you £50 :)

Can see your dilemma. Maybe worth holding onto it until you fancy using the money on something else.

:lol::lol::lol: I ain't trying to sell it

Well my next glass is going to be the 70-200 2.8 VRII which I can't afford as yet
so when the time comes doing a part exchange may be an option however, it is
the only prime lens which I own.............Hmmmmm :thinking:

A couple of years ago, I had the same issue with my 85 mm 1.8 not being used much. I then sold it and you guessed it,,, I missed not having it, to the point of buying another one!

This excellent lump of glass sits nicely and quietly in my bag, even if it does only come out for the occasional airing.

So guys, if you have this lens and are tempted to sell, think hard before you do.:)

@Tom...........Thanks.
Upon reflection I will keep it, It will have more chance of getting used regularly
when I get the D700, so it will probably sit in the drawer for a further year.

Get rid of the D5000 and buy a D300 ... then you'll have an excellent body to use the 85mm with and will be ready for the 70-200 :-)

Sound advice there but I want a D700 after the 70-200.
I don't reckon I will ever dump the 5000 as it has served me well and taught me a lot, it goes everywhere with me at the moment, I just clip it on to my BR7 together with my Tamron 18-270 and head off to places where it will not be a great financial loss should it get damaged or stolen which is highly likely at the venues I frequent.
