Hi All,

I want to get some lenses for my nex to have a play with and like the nikkor 55mm macro lens coupled with a extension tube to allow close up shots. I got a hold of a Olympus zuiko 50mm prime and am enjoying the whole manual focus control.

Does anyone have this lens on their nex or anyone confirm that it'll work well with the nex. I've seen photos taken with the this lens from a different camera and like the quality of images.

Thanks for reading and look forward to some replies.

Thanks for that red. I will get the adapter after I have successfully acquired the lens. Just wanted to hear peoples thoughts on it.

Something like this? Bit expensive. But I wouldn't mind because I do want to get a quality lens for the nex. At the same time I still want to be able to use it to close up photography.

Being a 28mm was that considered a wide angle. I noticed with the olympus 50mm prime a lot of the image was cropped, and didn't quite like that, compared to the kit lens. I was thinking of something like this with an extension to allow close ups when I want to do that sort of thing.

All lenses will get a 1.5x crop on a Nex, even the native ones. So the 18-55mm kit lens has an effective field of view of 27-82mm.

That 28/2 is vastly overpriced IMO. I would suggest £200.00 is a sensible price.

For a really high quality lens, look at the Contax Carl Zeiss range in Contax/Yashica mount. These work very nicely on a Nex.

Thanks for the tips MF-g. I will have a look about for one of those. Which sort is best to go for for what I want to use it for?

Just looking at the Carl zeiss and I think they're out of my budget. They are quite expensive! I think I will have to stick with the nikkor for now.

How much difference was there between the NIKKOR 24mm/2.8 and the 28mm/2? Obviously the latter was a faster lens but were there any huge differences?

Surely the longer the better for closeups? Why don't you buy a couple of lenses? If you want something in a "normal" focal length i.e. equivalent to a film camera's 50mm length, then go for a 35mm focal length lens e.g. 35/2.8. 24mm will give you a near on "street" length at equivalent 36mm. 28mm is somewhere in between.

For closeups, generally I prefer something longer, in order to get in close but not disturb what I'm shooting.

You're right. I'm looking at getting a 24mm 2.8 for my architecture landscape shots to maximise what I can get in the picture and then a 55/50mm with a macro extension tube for close up shots. For me being real close is not a problem as I only tend to shoot still scaled models of buildings etc.

For the 50/55 does it matter if it's a 3.5, as a lot for sale seem to be 3.5, considering it will be used with a tripod I'm assuming it will be ok. The faster lenses are a lot more expensive, it would be nice to have a 1.2 like yours though.

It could still be a problem if your lens starts to get in the way of the light and you end up with shadows from the lens over the scene.

I know what you mean, but generally I have never had this problem in the past so I should think those lenses would be ok. This would only be the start of my collection mind you ;). I'm sure there will be more to come. Just thought I'd start with these.

Out of curiousity, when you say Contax Carl Zeiss range, which do you mean goes well with the Nex? I see Planar, Distagon etc, which of these would be 'the one' to have on the Nex?

Other than the Nikkors you listed above, what else have you used with the nex which was good? How do you rate olympus zuiko lenses? These are the more affordable lenses it seems.

Thanks.
