Hello lovely people!

I have recently publised a Nikkor 50mm 1.8D lens and have been pleased with the depth of field which is great for portraits but I have noticed that the images are not as sharp as I would like them. Has anyone else had the same experience with this lens? Am I doing someting wrong? And would you recommend another lens for this purpose?

Thank you for your help!

Hi

Do you have any photos of you can post? Also at what f stop were you taking the photos? From what I have read you get good results at f2.5 as opposed to f1.8.

Pretty soft IME anything below f2.5 - not the reason I would buy a fast lens, to use once stopped down. The G version is MUCH better.

Without knowing what you hot and how you shot it, it impossible to provide a sensible response. I mean my afd50mm is absolutely spot on, but other will come sound like they have that the G is much better. It doesn't men nothing without knowing what you shot how you shot it and with what?

I have the 50/1.8D never noticed any issues with regard to sharpness.

You need to post a sample image, together with the settings used, in order that we can offer an opinion.

Not as sharp as the 85 1.8D. I have a 35 1.8G Dx , a 50 1.8 D and the aforementioned 85. The 50 is the least sharp and gets least use on my d7K. It is ok from 2.8 though.
