Hi,
Ive had my Nikon D600 with the 50mm 1.8D for a few months now and really happy with this combo. I have noticed when shooting the kids indoors i find the 50mm a little too long so thinking the 28mm 1.8 would complement the 50mm well. I mainly take pictures of my daughters, neices and nephews and wondered if 28mm would cause lots of facial distortion. Do any of you shoot with the 28mm, would love to hear your thoughts especially when using the lens for portraits.

I use it, but only just got it so not taken too many pics. I really like it. It's really not too bad distortion wise and compliment the 50mm very well.

I have the 28mm and like it a lot.

It works great for environmental portraits.

Obviously it is not the best lens for headshot portraits due to perspective.

It's a very sharp lens, I liked mine a lot.

I got abit fed up with the focal length though, and ended up selling it to get a 35mm (to use alongside a 50mm&85mm). I much preferred the 35mm focal length...

I was thinking around the same line, I got the 50mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.4. I don't use zoom lens these days except the 70-200 f2.8. Planning to sell my 28-70 f2.8 and get a wider prime. 28 or 35 for me atm.

I have to say, when i had this lens a few years ago on my d700 it was absolutely fantastic. Very sharp and a lovely 'pop' quality to it. Couldn't fault it at all.

Only sold as i sold my nikon stuff. Have now reinvested in a d810 and lenses but feel that 24 and 35 is a better fit for me than 28...

I like, perfect partner for the 50. Gives very pleasing almost 3d like pics if that makes sense!

For environmental portraits I'd be more inclined towards 35mm - the 'other standard lens' - but 28mm is usable, and with a D600 you should be able to crop a bit where needed.

Thanks all, ive decided to go for a cheap 24-85 first to see which focal length i prefer, either 28 or 35 before i invest 300 odd quid in a lens. This way i can use both focal lengths then get the one most suited.

I took my D3 out last night and decided to put my 50mm 1.8G and 85 1.4D on, at that point I realise I really like prime compare to zoom. Uusally my D3 have the 28-70 f2.8 attached but I really like prime lens these days now. Only kept my 70-200 f2.8 for some sporty stuff. Also when going through my gear last night, I realise I have a old Tamron 19-35 f3.5-5.6 UWA zoom, is a AFD lens but it seems to be pretty good on the D3. Not to mention I also found a 28mm f2.8 and 135mm f2.8 AI lens lol.
