Nikkor 16-85 f3.5 vs new 16-80 f2.8

A major step forward or a marketing exercise ?

I have the 16-85mm which I have found to be an excellent lens. I was looking forward to its replacement but Nikon priced it way too high for me. And when I was buying the D500 there was no saving to buying it with the camera as a kit, where I had hoped to save a lot and get the lens that way.

It looks a good improvement from the reviews I have read, but too much for what it is imho.

Hopefully others with experience of both may post.

Thanks RH, it was your Venice poics that made me buy the 16-85, and as you are probably aware, the D500 is giving me major GAS, hence the thread.....
