A quick question for you in the know.
I have the nik collection install in photoshop cc. My question is can i also install it in light room or does it have to be in one or the other?

It's not installed in photoshop just connected as much as it will be to lightroom

I've been a bit thick. I've now found the tab in lightroom. It wasn't in plug-in manager where I expected to see it. It was in, edit in.
Thanks for your reply.

It's probably best used from photoshop as you can have it on a layer

Dont be hard on yourself. I thought like you it would appear in plug in manager. Spent half the day trying to find it before I resorted to You Tube for the answer.[emoji1][emoji1]

Google will no longer develop Nik Collection
"Google will stop providing updates for its Nik Collection suite of plug-in photo editing tools. The 'announcement' comes by way of a banner at the top of the Nik Collection site, stating that there are no plans to update or add features to the Collection.
Google acquired Nik in 2012, taking ownership of its desktop apps as well as its popular Snapseed mobile editing app. The company began offering the Collection free of charge last year. The software is compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 through 10.10; Windows Vista, 7, 8; and Adobe Photoshop through CC 2015."

That has been a fear for a while and there will be concerns about how much longer it will be a viable product ... I don't use all of the 'features' but a couple are regularly used in my workflow. :(

Had the NIK collection for along time I actually paid for mine I only use Silver Efex pro 2 and Dfine both very good.

I bet is straightforward, and quite an interesting exercise, to come up with an alternative set of steps to reproduce your favourites.

I suspect the Nik collection will be viable for quite a long time on Windows, as application compatibility between OS versions tends to be emphasised more than it is on the Mac. Even if Adobe breaks plugin compatibility, you can still use most things in standalone mode, though that's much less convenient (and probably a deal breaker in professional environments). Most of the Nik stuff also works in Affinity, with some issues.

Control points?

Maybe. But it's probably a "sequence" of operations.

I've not seen it in action. As it doesn't run on my pc. So if it is discontinued, it makes no difference to me.

Luminosity masking

Luminosity masks could kind of replicate it... but control points take a fraction of a second to add and just a couple of seconds more to refine. If you've hundreds of images to edit then Nik is invaluable. I'm with Gramps... Nik is a key part of my workflow, I'll be gutted if and when I can no longer use it.

There's a 'Save the Nik Collection' petition HERE if anyone fancies signing it... not that it'll do any good but it's marginally better than doing nothing!
