Well i need to nip to Jessops after work to spend a fortune (9p lol) and have looked at a 50mm F1.8

someone convince me i wont need one, i do motorsports mainly but may use it for portraits and so on, and in the future the other halfs dad is looking into working in photography (hes worked as a hobby doing weddings etc for 25 years now) and will have a studio and insists on dragging me along lol which will be good

this seems like the ideal lens but i am not sure if i would need one? current one i would use would be a 24-60 sigma F2.8

Thanks

It's the best value for money Canon do. People always want them, so they are easy to resell if you don't like...

You won't need one? :p

I find i never realy use mine, unless in low light.

i have been looking for a while and thinking do i, or dont i, how often will i use it etc etc lol, i never had this problem buying the sigma 100-300 lol and its what 8 times the price lol

decisions decisions lol. the one thing that syays in its favour is i dont want to spend just 9p in Jessops lol

Think of the wonderful advice you'll get whilst you're in there.

I love mine and use it quite a bit - tempted to get the 50mm 1.4 for the USM and the fact that it just feels a bit too palsticy!

ah ********

just gone to order it and it is showing none at any local store to me :(

had one last night to, **** lol

Don't pay the silly price Jessops want!
Amazon were cheaper inc delivery when I bought mine a few weeks ago.

£72 collected is ok to me, and i could have collected it while i was there

Save your money - it's a waste of time focal length most of the time, and you as near as damn it have the f-stop covered in your 24-70 anyway - which is a far more usable lens in every way

I'll go further - I'll call you a Pillock if you go buy it now seeing as you already have a fast enough 50mm focal length at your disposal

i may well see if i can "try" before i buy, no where local has one atm anyway so i can either get one soon or save to go to the other lenses i am wanting

it's a good lens but you'll probably use 2.8 more than you will anything lower if you're doing portraits so the sigma would be my choice as your dof is pretty tiny @ 1.8

it's a great lens at a great price but frankly 72 is too much imo as i got mine for about 55 delivered iirc

You missed the big nikon avatar under his name I guess? :P

kenko on ebay - for 65 pounds

It's worth buying, just to own one.

I hummed and hawed a long time then chose to go for an EF-s 60mm f2.8 macro prime for my canon. Nice lens, fastest I have now and very sharp focus.

£92 I paid for mine, it was a while ago, and its been worth every damn penny, my most used lens by miles, totally reliable, sharp, light and fast.
You don't have anything that covers that length with more style and quality.
Sigma zoom.....pft

was in jessops earlier and they didnt have any, not that they were very helpful mine you

will try a lens out i maybe able to borrow over the coming days and see if its something i want

it still seems to be 50/50 on if its worth it or not....

I've hardly used my fifty in the year I've had it, don't get me wrong it produces lovely images, it's just not a focal length I find much use.....

I use mine all the time I find it’s nice and light for when I am just walking round.
I know it can be a pain for the focal length on big subjects but I just walk back a bit.
Or if it’s a small subject I just walk forward. Walking is the cheapest form of zoom I have come across up to now. Plus I like that if you in a tight spot you might have to try different positions to get the shot.
