Can you please advise me on the Nifty Fifty what is the best use for it and apx what price I should expect to pay, also will it be a good addition to my 30d kit..

You can get it from Kerso for £70 all in, Its great for portrait i hear but people are showing so much versatility with this lens lately... Buy one it will be great for you kit even if only use it every so often

I've not used mine a lot, certainly not for portait as yet. But, the aperture is superb for getting shallow DOF, and the light gathering ability also makes it really good for night sky images (I've yet to give it a real proper try, I need a new mounting bar). It's amazingly small and lightweight too.

i use mine now and again it just depends on what im taking photos of to what i use it for i have taking some pictures for e bay with it before i love the lens will pop a pic up shortly if you want to see what the nifty can do

and buy the way BY ONE you wont regret it at all

i would love the 1.4 version i run the 1.8 at the moment

I was given mine for my birthday a few years back. I actually kept it on my camera body for 3 months solid it is so much fun.

I learned more about photography using that little prime than from anything else.

Get one, you'll not regret it. There's always room/weight to stick it in your bag "just in case".

I love my nifty fifty, I've used it for portraitature, live music shots, still life photography and in some cases even a spot of wildlife photography. I love the flexibility that this one small tiny lens gives me.

Get the 1.4 if you can stretch to it - is a great lens, very sharp, I use mine all the time for both portraits and casual outdoor etc...

cheers
Matt

I forced myself to use it almost 100% at the weekend. Was a good walkabout lens, extremely light through London. Very few ocasions where I wanted anything else. Required me to think more about what I was wanting to take.

Even at ISO100, took some pretty fast shutter speeds, this one it 1/2500! The guy on the bike is cycling at the time. I had the aperture too wide for this particular shot, but I put it up so that you can see the crispness in the focal area, and the blur around the edge (look at the head) where /I/ should have put the focus. At 25% this photo is still probably printable though.
