I am seriously considering getting a nifty fifty. Looking on fleabay I see Minolta 50mm f1.7 going for final prices up to £120. I don't want to say that all sellers are dodgy, but as we all know it still taking a risk. At Jessops there is a Sony 50mm f1.4 going for £249. Being brand new at least I know it will be in excellent condition (I hope!) without any fungus etc. Is the extra £130 worth it? Or should I try my luck on Fleabay?:help:

If in doubt buy on ebay, pay cash when you collect it once you've tried it :).

Will the Minolta lens work on your Sony body?

Its got to be worth the punt for saving £130 - If I were you I would do cash on collection only though.

Regards, James

I have an Alpha 350 and I bought a Minolta 50mm f1.7 for £95 on ebay, and it was the best decision i made in a while, thought about the Sony 50mm f1.4 but opted for the minolta, and its a lovely lens.

Check sellers feedback etc, and paypal does give buyer protection if your worried, although never had to use it thankfully.

For the saving, I would take the chance!!

Just remember to make sure you get the AF version of this lens as there are several MF versions on there from what I remember.

Its always worth being careful but to be honest a 50mm is always going to be a good investment. Although I could do with a 24-70 I have used my Sigma f/1.4 for the last 4 months for wedding, portrait, family, street and glamour and been totally ok with it. If I could only have one lens a 50mm would be it. And although my Sigma 50mm f/1.4 is super sharp wide open if I could only pick one lens a 50mm would be it. Just my oppinion :)

Thanks for the replies. It seems I will go with Ebay. Fortunately, and luckily, one listed is situated in my town...seems it was destined for me (have to win if first though!)
