Hey all!

I just got back from Jessops with my new Nifty. But Once i put it on my 1D, the focusing motor is crazy loud, like really really loud. Is this normal? Or have i got a duff?

The 1.8?

If so, yes it has noisy AF. Its fine as long as its not making a griding noise!

Not making a Grinding noise! But its loud :P Louder than i thought. But it seems to be working fine! So i'll leave it i think and take it out today. If i think it is dodgey i shall return it for another!

Nah its a Canon one! After all the fuss i made about switching i decided against it, because i didn't want to wait for my 1d to sell :P

My nifty is a little louder than my other lenses but not LOUD

See how it goes but personaly I'd go back with your camera and try another one.

yeah, i'm going to try it on my father's 350D and see if it is the same. It may just be because i have an old camera

Wouldn't bother, the camera makes no difference to the lens AF noise.

What lenses are you comparing it to?

I think it's just a quirk of the lens, my nifty is pretty loud and so was a friends when I tried it, although for the price I think it's a pretty ok trade off to be honest.

I only noticed how loud it was when I started buying more expensive lenses. Without actually hearing it I'd be hard pressed to say if yours is damaged or not.

If you mean the 1.8 then yes, it is loud.

The biggest surprise i had like that was the IS system on the Canon 70-300mm. I was convinced mine was broken when I first got it, so I went to a local camera shop and theirs sounded exactly the same.

Mine didn't seem loud until I got my 17-55mm f/2.8 USM which is totally silent. Using my 50mm sounds like a fighter jet going overhead in comparison now.
