Hi all, im having issues with my 50mm 1.8 II. Its not wanting to AF at all. No matter what subject, lighting or settings on the camera, it just keeps hunting.

If i manual focus, then it will lock on to a focus point.

Ive tried other lens and they are fine.

Has anyone had similar issue? the lens and camera is free of any dust.

The lens has only been used a hand full of times in the last 6months too

any info is welcome,

Cheers,
Raj

Is it the same indoors and out?

Yeah, its the same indoors and out... also different subjects and settings on the camera

I'd say it probably shafted then.

Mine is a bit slow to focus sometimes compared to my Sigma 18-200, and just hunts with my Kenko tubes attached. I have come to the conclusion that it likes lots of light and that is the issue

I'd say it probably shafted then.

Thats what i was thinking too... gutted as i have not taken more then 20shots with it....

Sounds silly, but is this set with one shot focus? Have you tried it with AI SERVO (or equivalent if not a canon man!).

I can understand a lens hunting in low light but not outdoors in the daytime...

Yeah, i just double checked and its doing it in AI SERVO too....

I think its had it... i guess i can use it manual though...

Looks like i'll hunt for 50mm 1.4

I take it it's out of warranty?

yeah by three days!!! how gutting is that...

sometimes life aint fair. lol

Gutted!

Might be worth taking it to a repairer, it might be something simple you never know.

True, but then for the price of a new one... isit worth messing arround?

i might just hold back buying another lens, as im wanting a 5dII so may get a decent deal pop up here
:D
