Nifty Fifty Challenge 2025 - Chat thread

Moving on ... Slight change, a poll won't be added to the end, hope that's ok and people still enjoy the challenge??

Next is up.

Fine by me Gav, it doesn't bother me if there is no Poll I don't do it for the votes anyway I do it for the challenge of coming up with something that fits the theme and I am prepared to share with the Forum.

Thanks for all the work I know it needs to keep these things going.

Challenge Pareidolia : Did I get the most votes? . . . I am honoured and a great inaugural image for my new-to-me Canon EF AF 50mm f/1.2 for the last voting poll of this gentlemen's competition. Great fun and more so that my works canteen are still wondering why I exclaimed "Yes" and punched the air today lol!

You did, sorry it's late, I had issues getting on the forum mid-week, I have just mentioned you in the thread, well done (y)

Be careful you'll get a name for yourself :p:LOL:

I've been wanting to use the same picture for the DPOTY and Nifty Fifty threads all year, and although it's a little cheeky, this month I've managed it.

Managed to get a shot, not what I had planned, but with builders back and fro I'm loosing a few days a week. My 50mm macros gone awol, but after I took the pic I found it in "err indoors" camera bag. Dohhh!

Just in, my Connection photograph is posted and I am sure we have all been in this situation at some time or another . . . if not then be warned! lol

This one was more difficult than expected. I'd hoped for a cafe shot or a gluhwein stall when I went into Oxford a couple of weekends ago, but the weather was foul and I couldn't hang around. Had plans for an indoors shot this weekend with coffee beans, percolator etc, but 50mm is too wide for the space and what I wanted, so those were binned. Last thing, larder to the rescue!

Morning folks, with regret I'm stepping down from the challenges, sorry.

If anyone wants to carry it on, feel free to copy anything I've done, or put your own twist on things.

Thank you to all that played along (y)
Sorry to hear that Gav, I know I missed the last one (lot going on) but I'm waiting for light for this one, it's grim here in Wales. I do have a back up plan though.
I hope someone picks it up and keeps it going.
I'm happy to post a new title every month if that helps.

Cheers Wayne, weather pants here too...

As for new themes each month that's your call, and good of you to offer, no pressure (y)

Sorry to hear that Gav, I have enjoyed your challenges they have pushed me beyond my normal shooting and re-kindled my like for the 50mm which I now carry and use on my Dartmoor Photowalks when I am using my Leica M9s. The Alphabet one has been particularly challenging but equally enjoyable. Thanks for all your work.

Thank you, Paul, much appreciated (y)

I've personally got my hands full with the TP52, DPOTY and New Old Digital, but I'd also like to see the Nifty-Fifty and Alphabet challenges continue, if anyone would care to step forward please. Gav did a great job initiating these and running them, so it would be good to build on that base. I think the challenges and Open Threads are what keep us shooting.

Thank you, Lindsay.

I'd love to help out here, the Alphabet is the easy one as it only involves randomly selecting already known content, the difficult (in my view) one is the Nifty Fifty because it involves choosing a theme and it would be hard for me to choose something then be challenged if that makes sense. That said, if we could have a bunch of themes suggested by other members (enough to be able to randomly select one for the month) then I would pe prepared to take on both but it does depend on the themes coming from other members to which I would contribute then much like the alphabet they would go into a hat and be drawn at random (please don't ask me to ask AI for them). Also like Gav's challenges I would not run polls on either.

That sounds like a plan @Topsy Paul.
I'll post a themes suggestions list here later after I've had a couple of meetings, and others can chip in too, then we can get these sorted for next year. Many thanks for stepping up!

Here's a starter list of themes:
Boat(s)
Vehicle
Street
Shop
Hats
Windows
Fence
Contrast
Travel
Postbox
Windy
Lines
Leaves
Night

If anyone could add other ideas, then we can do it like the 52 where there is a master list, and all you need to do Paul is pick one from that list. Or you could, if you wisdh, PM me at the time to select one for you.
