Nifty 50mm on tour?

well im not going anywhere on holiday but more than happy to take it round some of the photographic and not so photographed places in Scotland for a week?.......after all would be a shame to forget about the home countries wouldnt it?........

Fi

When do you want it? and Canon or Nikon?

Pete

Great response so far guys and gals :) The Nifty is heading to a lot of cool places. If people want to include brochures and leaflets of some of the place you have been then please do. Not sure how Mobile Virgin is sending it but a tuperware box with the Lens inside its own box would be great. - People could sign it :)

I could take a portrait of David Coulthard at the British Grand Prix fan club meeting, thats about all i could imagine i could do with the nifty fifty...

That will be 03/07/08 -> 06/07/08 not sure if that time is already signed up for.

Of I think we can do better than tuperware...how about I make a nice little light weight carbon fibre vault for it to live in so the little fella is safe on his travels?

great idea Eric. Does the 50mm have a uv filter on it?

It might be best if it does.

Its got a skylight on it atm - I'll leave that on. I've got the original Canon box as well.

I'm off to Luxor and Cairo in October if the Canon fancies a trip to the Pyramids

If anyone is coming down to Australia at all I'll happily do some shots with it and then send it on, Nikon one.

It seems to me that Mobilevirgin is going to be without a very useful lens for a long time. I would like to suggest that we all send him a £1 coin to buy himself a replacement, and the same for whoever donates the Nikon lens.

Sounds like a good idea....

Is there a thread yet for 'booking' it? I'd love to have it with me for the USA on 13th March.

Cheers,
James

20th March I am going to egypt so it could see some pyramids....

dam, just saw the post above.

lol,

brilliant idea.

If nobody else can come up with one then I'm willing to donate my manual focus 55mm micro nikkor that was donated to me.

Failing that, we could always have a little paypal donation towards the cost of one from fleabay? they're not really expensive and those who donate would get first dibs on the loan!

That's a very kind suggestion and I appreciate the thought. But there really is no need - it was my offer to donate the lens to the project. I wasn't asked to do it. I'm as interested as anyone to see what the results of the exercise will be.

The lens is surplus to requirements at the moment - I bought a f/1.4 just before Xmas - and, as I said the other day, its in far from perfect condition anyway.

I'm just happy that it will get out and about in good hands.

So, I hope this isn't taken the wrong way, because I know the suggestion was well meant, but in the nicest possible way - thanks but no thanks.

Well OK MV, not taken wrong way at all :). Here's hoping we can all produce pictures to do justice to this project. I feel it's going to have excellent results.

Chris

Excellent Idea Blackvault :clap: and equally to Mobilevirgin on the donation :clap: Oh and MattyH for sorting the website :clap:

The tour has started :)

Although the first leg (from me to MacMike47) is a rather pitiful 25 miles.

Have fun with it, and keep this thread updated with progress.

Is this thread for general chit chat about 'The Tour' too?

Cos I think this is going to be awesome!

What a mighty cultured lens it will be....hehe

im sure we could make a mile-o-meter......tot up its total miles....

Show the world what our niftyfifties can do and see!

Upload the photos they take to Google Earth!

• Photos with coordinates in EXIF are mapped automatically, you don't need to map them manually.
• Photos are resized automatically, you can upload photos in their original size (max. 5 MB)
• It is recommended to map the photo in the place where it was taken, not over the subject of the photo.

Fire up your Google Earth, tick 'Terrain', 'Geographic Web', and '3D Buildings', zoom in on the pyramids, and see the photos and their vantage points. Those photos are the standard. Can our niftyfifties do better?

Let's tag our niftyfifty photos. May I suggest (duh): TP08niftyfiftyC or TP08niftyfiftyN?

^^ Good idea :)

Could we use the 55mm that ghandi has kindly offered as a nifty 50?

Unless all the nikon onwers fancy kicking in a fiver or so each to buy one, then sell it on when we're done and split the proceeds?

We can't let these Canonites beating us now can we? :p

I don't mind putting in a fiver, then we can get our leg of the tour underway too!

i want a go, but sadly not going on any trips soon. :-(

Hi 6ft,

so you're not going on safari, or to the Emirates, or somewhere else exotic soon? OK, then your challenge – should you choose to accept it – is to shoot a shopping spree in the high street.
That's very exotic to the average Kikuyu or Arab! Almost pornographic...

Have fun!

Brilliant idea and I look forward to seeing the results of the world tour. Do you think it might like a companion? .....like the Monkeh! I bet the Monkeh would enjoy a world tour on a nifty fifty as it seemed quite at home at the NEC lounging across the humungas Sigma.

I'd happily join in. Planning on travelling through South East Asia in December.. so please book it in with me from 15th December to 5th Jan. (Dates might change slightly)
