Nifty 50mm on tour?

Didn't come and just tracked it. Blooming post office says they tried to deliver and left a card - which they didn't. Also, office opens 9.30am. Surely they don't deliver before that?!

Then the blooming online re-delivery button on their website doesn't work... Had to phone them up - but guess what: You need the "sorry you were out" card. ARGH! Spoke to a call system thingy and re-arranged delivery for Monday as I'm out of office on Fri and not working Sat... I let you know how I get on. :(
 
Just like to say thank you superstat. Picked the lens up about an hour ago and had a little play.

First impressions are this may only cost £60 to buy but it's not cheap as it makes you want to go and buy more fast glass.

The quality is what you would expect for £60 and the image is not the greatest but it is small and compact and delivers amazing bokeh and ability to keep the speed high.

I'm going to have a bit more of a play when I get time and post some pictures.

Right, the Nikon 50mm is finally in my hands and in good working order. Thanks for fast delivery!

I would very much like to have it for my trip in London over Christmas - please advise if it's okay to keep it that long. Otherwise I have to send it to someone else before I even get a chance to use it :-/
 
Hi Bakedbeans... sounds fine to me! There are only 3 of us using this at the moment! lol.

Could I possibly have it for the 12th Jan?? I'm off to Berlin for a weekend!

I'm ever hopeful that an old fat guy in a red suit is going to 'present' me with one at Christmas, but we'll see. ;)



Enjoy it Bakedbeans, it's a fun lens. Although it is a fast lens, don't restrict yourself to f/1.8, it is fun to play with very narrow DoF, but it's a great sharp lens stopped down a stop or two.

Glad you finally got your hands on it :thumbs:

Hey dude

Yeah, it's a cracking lens! I played with it in my flat the other night and I'm amazed by the results between f/2 and f/5.6 - very sharp indeed! :thumbs:

I'll keep you posted with who will get it (most likely Aimee after Christmas) and you'll get to see some pics on my flickr page anyway!

Ok I've added some photos on my flickr. Hope you get to see the exif info as I'm not sure how to display this. The 2 pictures of my goggles show the difference between aperture open and shut.

Right, had the lens for some time now and if I wouldn't get a 70mm POV, I would certainly buy it but probably looking to buy a 35mm f/2 as it's going to be less narrow on my D50 with a x1.5 crop.

If anyone would like to get the lens (Nikon fit), please PM me.
 
I'd love to try this out. Im thinking of getting one but I just dont know if its its too zoomed in. Would be a great chance to test it out for a few days.

edit, I mean the canon 50 ;)

Can someone report on the Canon's noise factor, please. When it left me it was full of sand and you could hear it grating as it auto focused. Maybe its use over the last 12 months has eliminated the sand and its got quieter. Or maybe its been abused and now has more sand than before?

There was a Youtube vid showing how noisy it was - anyone care to update?

I'm hoping to get a Nikon niftyfifty from Jessops as soon as they get some stock in because I have some vouchers to spend. If I could get my hands on the 'on tour' lens in the fairly near future then I would love to have a go of it before I spend my money on the lens.

Who has the Nikon lens at the moment? Please PM me if you are ready to send it on. Thanks.

I have sent the lens to her last week, recorded. I have tried to contact her without success. :?
 
I've just tried to send another PM to Aimee and again got the message that I could only send 1 PM every 60 seconds even though I hadn't sent one for a few days. I tried sending a PM to myself and although I get the same message about having to wait 60 seconds the PM came through to my inbox so I can only assume Aimee got the ones I've tried to send her. Hopefully she's just busy playing with the lens and will be back on here soon to pass it on to someone else (me!!)
 
I just recieved the Canon 50mm from SamD will give a good play with over the next week or so, hopefully will be visiting some places when it clears up, sadly the weather for the next week will be terrible :(

As for the noise from auto focus is a little loud and grindy but after using it for a bit it did sort itself out. Must admit it is more plastic than I thought it would be. As for the quality of picture, i'll soon find out :)

Its very plasticky feel belies its fabulous optics.

Stop it down to f/4 and it's stupidly sharp :thumbs:

Hello... I am still alive! I have replied to Rob, I'm sending him the Nikon lens end of next week. Bakedbeans; sorry I didn't reply, I ended up going out to Berlin earlier than I was meant to, so I didn't receive the lens in time to take it with me (completely not your fault, in case anyone wonders!) and I've only just got back. So I'm going to have a week of play before sending it on.

Rob, just to let you know, I got about 5 messages in my inbox from you. So it sent everytime! lol. :D

I haven't been sent the lens yet. According the Aimee's post above she should be sending it about now. I have a portrait session on 9th Feb that I'd like to use it for so I'll be ready to send it on after that. PM me your details and I'll let you know when it's on its way.

Thanks Aimee. I can't wait to have a try of the lens. I've heard great things about it's sharpness which is something I don't get from my sigma lenses.

Sorry about bombarding your inbox but it's better (for me) that you got 5 messages than none. :bonk:
 
Hey Rob, not a problem! It's winging it's way to you as we speak... I'm guessing providing the snow doesn't stop the royal mail, you should have it on Wednesday!?
