NickDs 52 for 2022 - Week 52 - Showcase.

Week 39 - Depict A Song.

Listening to an 80s cheesefest on the radio at the weekend, they played 'Step Off' by the Furious Five, which I'd not heard since I was at school... Yup, there's my idea... so I went around looking for places where people would step off things. Maybe this one is a little tight (I had the 27mm pancake, which is my go-to street lens), but the sychronisation makes it for me, and I like the fact that they're leading with opposite legs. I guess Prince's 'Get Off', would also work for this one.

I thought it was Steppin' Out by Joe Jackson which I'm now going to have to listen to again. Thanks for reminding me :)
A well timed shot and I like the mono treatment.

I like it - the Black and White conversion works well.

I thought Going Underground by the Jam or even Down in the Tube Station at Midnight (which is my favourite Jam track).

Thanks!
I did get a few shots like that while I was out, but I thought 'Down in the Tube Station at Lunchtime' was a bit of a stretch! :D

Great shot Nick. Excellent timing.

Cheers!
I was lucky to get just these two alighting. Waiting for the right moment wasn't a problem, but getting a clean shot without it being a flood of people was tricky. Luckily it was a fairly quiet time of day.

Very neatly spotted and shot

Thank you!
I was watching as the trains came in for prospective 'good' doors to try... then trying to get to them without looking dodgy.

Thanks!
That would work. Joe Jackson's 'Got The Time' was on my shortlist too.

Week 40 - Looking down.

*No photographers were harmed in the making of this image* :D

Looking down the barrel of a gun, obviously (I hope).

Nice mono Nick :)

Nice mono Nick :)

Thanks!
I had to crush the hell out of the blacks to get it how I wanted.

Wow great shot and it gives me the chills. Lots of impact!

Cheers!
She makes a pretty intimidating gangster, I think she's in the wrong job!

Lovely shot Nick, and I love the composition and focus

Thank You!
Focus was tricky, as it's a manual focus lens and there wasn't much light. It was a case of working around the ballpark and choosing the shot that got closest.

Great idea and well executed. The mono suits it.

Thanks!
It had to be mono, and colour would have made it a completely different image.

Great shot Nick, really creative and well composed.

Depict a song. Excellent street capture.
Looking down. Another excellent shot. Both work really well in mono.

Week 41 - Rustic.

A bit stuck for ideas this week, and also for time as we're getting ready to go away on hols... yay!

I took a couple of similar shots as a placeholder, then today I decided to commit to the idea and take a better version. I felt the tight crop worked with the detail in the bread, but now I've started to doubt it... still, it's done now... PABD!

Mmmm that looks yummy. Suits the close crop.

Not the most rustic loaf, but there are seeds on it and not bad due to the time constraints you have, enjoy the hols, somewhere warm?

Pete

The slices make this an interesting image.
Good close up shot.

I did shoot wider, but only the tight crop came near to working.

I like the detail you've captured. Close crop works for me. Enjoy your hols.

Cheers!
I'm sure we will!

Yep, works for me too - now where's that cheese?

Thank you!
Had we any cheese in, it would be in the shot! :ROFLMAO:

Thanks!
It's not the best, admittedly. we were running stocks down ready for not being here and this was the last of the bread. Camera is packed and it looks like we can expect 30 degrees!

Good close up shot.

Cheers!
The slices do make it look less rustic I think, but they add interest.

Good dof and well lit. Fits the bill for me.

Thank You!
It makes the theme, and that will have to do for this week.

A really nice shot Nick, I can almost taste it...

Weeks 42 and 43 - Precision and Vehicle +Tech (Shadows).

Week 42 - Precision.

An admirable bit of precision vandalism here. Given the result, it's hard to believe it was random. Annoying and wrong, obviously, but it made me grin, juvenile thing that I am!

Week 43 - Vehicle + Tech (Shadows)

A chap getting his tank filled at a single pump, street corner gas station in the shadow of a palm tree.

Precision - Huh huh.... huh huh huh :D

Vehicle - a nice street scene :)

Good and different vehicle shot Nick.

I'm with Dave on the precision.

Precision... well spotted. Lol..
Vehicle: Simple scene but has an really warm and interesting feel to it.

I thought it was the precision of the line of bollards initially!

I like the vehicles street shot

I couldn't help reading that in a Beavis & Butthead voice.

Good and different vehicle shot Nick.

Cheers!
It's amazing how just changing your environment changes the kind of shot you take.

Precision... well spotted. Lol..

Thank you!
My (still) teenage mind always notices anything daft like that!

2 good pics Nick.

In Spain by chance?

Pete

Thanks!
Yes, we were wandering around Alicante. Looking out of the window, I wish we still were.

I thought it was the precision of the line of bollards initially!

I like the vehicles street shot

Cheers
I came back with plenty of vehicle shots, but went with this one because of the palm shadow, as I'd left the tech a little late.

Week 44 - Autumnal.

We always know when the weather has turned in this house, as a big pan of stew magically appears on the hob, stays there for a few days, after which whatever's left goes in the freezer, and another magically appears shortly after.

Definitely have some of that - love an autumnal stew.

As for the image, I find the knobs on the cooker and the light a little distracting. Did you consider a landscape version where you crop those out?

Love a nice warming stew, I agree with Kell re the light and knobs.

Pete

Nice take on the theme Nick. I'd have some of that!

Thanks!
I was hoping the warmth and comfort would come through in the picture.

I did consider cropping it to just above the reflections, but chose to go for a more situational shot. Maybe that was a mistake.

Thank you!
As above, I suspect you're both right about that. Maybe a little tighter shot would work better.

Yum, sweet potatoes, yams, squash...

Two out of three in there... I'm honestly not sure I've ever eaten a Yam, or If I'd recognise one if I did. I must look into it.

I meant to add...

I like the image, I think the pop of orange definitely works against the cooler steel, but ...

Just in case you thought I didn't like it at all.
