Hi, going to a party for my sister who lives in the Leicester area on saturday night. Staying over so will have a slow drive back to herts late Sunday night. Suggested to my wife we stop off somewhere nice to have lunch and take some photos of the scenery. Does anybody have Any suggestions of a nice location I can make the most of? Pref landscapes so lakes, forest would be ideal. Thanks in advance.

Bradgate Park - just north of Leicester (think it's junction 22 of the M1). Really nice place with some ruins of an old house, a folly on top of a hill, large lake, loads of deer, a stream with waterfalls, loads of big rocks, a massive monolith war memorial, copses, massive oaks, heathland, views over leicester.... you name it and it probably has it ")

This isn't a great shot but it gives a rough idea of the place:

Think it's a couple of quid pay-and-display in one of the numerous car parks around the park. Really lovely place regardless of weather

Hi specialman thanks for the info looks amazing and about 7 miles from my sister in sileby. Does that sound right? Looks like a bit of everything there including my fav historical heritage. Thanks for the info to everybody for the help

Sileby is just round the corner really - look for cropston reservoir on the map and that's the lake in Bradgate. Apparently, the park was a gift to the people of leicester from some lord or something and it's been public land ever since. Really pleasant place.

The car park at Newton Linford is the one giving quickest access to the deer, the ruins and the river. I usually park at the top car park (sharply hill/warren hill roads), which is the one nearest the folly and the best for snowboarding in winter because that's where the steepest hill is :)
