A year ago I went to my GP with a recurring sinus infection. I was referred to ENT at the hospital. Eventually in July I saw someone and was given nasal spray to try and clear it up, it didn't. Then finally I was given a date to have an op in October. It didn't go ahead because I had an infection (yes, sinus) and was rescheduled for November with a plan to take antibiotics a week before. Cancelled again as I'd had a cold in the two weeks leading up to the op date, rescheduled for January.

Yep, you guessed it. Cancelled again this time because I had the infection (despite 2 courses of antibiotics) and another cold.

Now I can understand cancelling the op if I'm not well because of the risk with the anaesthetic. What I don't understand is why the hospital have now decided to take me off the waiting list and not tell me? :nono:

I just phoned to chase up my new op date and was told because I had cancelled the operation they had taken me off the list. Excuse me? I didn't cancel anything they did but "technically" because I'm ill I the one that cancelled it. :bonk::bonk:

So it's back to square one and a visit to the GP tomorrow. Lucky my GP is a top bloke and I expect he'll kick up merry hell and get me back on the list.

See that? That's steam coming out my ears.. grrrr!

had a similar problem when the nut case i lived next to cancelled my op on my knees. i explained to them about her, and they said id have to start back at the end of the queue again, after going through the docs, being reffered then physio again, then back into the queue so i told them to forget it

i had a appointment to get results of a lump in my hand when i went a month after the scan he made me wait 30 mins in the waiting room a further 10 mins in his office just to tell me they have no results and giggled said come back in a month

:bang: im going back with a :bat:

Dont worry too much. I have private insurance. Got told that they couldnt operate my broken leg straight away privately so they would put me on the waiting list and the result ended in me laying in a hospital bed with a leg in two pieces for 9 days before they did anything about it. Not fun :|

nhs is absolute dogs poo!!!!!

If you don't like it, then it's dead simple....go private

Any dealings I've had with the NHS have been  and personally I don't think our doctors and nurses get nearly enough recognition or pay for the work they do.

i think 80k a year is more than enough recognition tbf

totally agree but.......there are some issues with private aswell

I don't think many nurses get £80K ;) and remember to get £80k or whatever, a doctor will have spent years and years at university and working long hours as a junior doctor, not to mention probably running up a huge student debt.

when you have had as much dealings with doctors as i have had you'll soon change your tune.....

granted there are some amazing top docs but some are just so lazy and ignorante to your needs and what you want

Not always that simple. My previous insurance informed me that I could no loonger claim from them for my relapses and flare ups which needs an op as it was a Chronic Illness. Luckily, my health care provider I now have wiht work covers me and I'm due to go in on Monday.

Also I had quite a basic package with my previous insurers and it was still over £60 a month which I couldn't really afford.

Private may be better but it's not always the solution

if i was private christ a student loan that those docs build up would have been pennies lol

and private is not always best i have heard of some right storys which would shock you.

kelack - good luck

It's not the people (they're good and bad same as anywhere else) so much as the system.

What kind of sense does is it make for them to decide to cancel my op 3 times and then take me off the list because "I" had cancelled it. Even worse to have a policy that they won't inform me that's what they'd done.

thats wrong to cancel it without notice to you.....

i would get to you gp and try and take it further its defo not right you could become worse..... i think it stinks

So what the hell are you moaning about? Honestly, some people

That a result of the sinus trouble? :p

That's pretty shocking. I had a similar issue with the Royal Hospital Haslar while waiting for a decompression on my knee. I actually gave them a copy of my diary on their request to schedule my surgery around times I would actually be in the UK and not away on an engagement. The first 2 appointments they made were for days I wasn't even in the country, as the policy is if you refuse 2 reasonable offers of an appointment then they take you off the waiting list. They threatened with this but we're pacified by a very stern phone call from my CO. They then offered me another slot by fax, 2 days before the actual appointment and tried it on again saying it was reasonable to only give less than 48 hours notice (even though they expect 36 hours notice for a cancellation) and that the date was from the list of dates I'd given them. Long story short they got a couple more phone calls and a snotogram to boot. Funny, they sorted my op fairly quick after that :D

I don't think they should have taken you off the list, but how far in advance did you tell them that you were ill?

nah i bet its not i must say i have had some awesome experinece from the nhs but its few and far between.....

albion do you work at derriford??
Yes thats where you'll find me

what do you do up there i prob reconise you i been going up there since i was 15 lol
I work in one of the labs, have done for 29 years now!!
Doubt if you would have seen me unless you have had any blood or blood products.

In that case, there is strong chance you may have seen me wandering around the wards.

the nhs is going down the pan - and as general quacks haven't really got a clue it's a load of rubbish anyway. and don't get me started on junior doctors - thick as pig **** and ignorant @sswipes too.

luckily i'm ok due to stupid errors - i'd seriously injure the b****r if he were still around. and only had a run in hospitals with excellent surgeons operating on me.

i had a brain tumour that the doctor FAILED miserably in spotting when i was a kid, it was diagnosed in time and removed - chemo and radio therapy and all, but with the delay in diagnosis brought many side effects that otherwise may NOT have shown.

pxl8 what you gonna do about it then you cant let it slide???

I'll speak to my GP in the morning, he'll get it sorted PDQ - probably get on the phone to the hospital and shout at some people

mine was the same sor tof thing. i had a tumour in my knee at 15 but they missed it for 12 months they said torn tendons oh its a sprain and in the end it was only a trainer that sent me for a test because he wasnt aware of what he could or couldnt do.

ended up with a false knee and even then they put the wrong knee in which left me legless
