I'm new to DSLR only a month or so in, I used to use my dads old film practica a fair bit but its been compact and compact with manual functions for the last 9 years.

I was so close to buying a 5D mkII over the 500D but I decided as my first step in to DSLR I would save the cash, learn what Im doing and take it from there, the plan is to buy decent glass for the time I upgrade as there is no point buying twice and I always regret buying somthing lesser when I know there is better available.

Kit so far
500D + kit lens
canon 50mm 1.8f
canon SL 580EX II

I am looking to replace the kit lens with a good walkabout maybe a little longer 24-70 2.8 or the 24-205 4f. A longer zoom in the 70-200 2.8 IS then somthing a little wider but thats where Im unsure, everyone says the sigma 10-20 but its an EF-s so no good in the future.

Hopfully this place will help me decide.

Hi John,

Welcome. Good kit.
I started with a Practica too.

Hi John & welcome to the forum

Hi John, and :welcome: to TP.

Welcome to the forum... You're not a lawyer by any chance? ;)

neo im no lawyer but I am who you think I am

I found it looking for advise on wedding photography thought I would sign up to see what I can learn regarding the possible problem I may have next year with the freinds asking me to do their wedding.

This place could cost me a fortune, so far I have seen 3 lenses in the sales section I would like to buy, the 70-200 f2.8L IS, the 24-105 f4L and the 10-22mm.

I will need to get some invoices sent out to customers to pay for them all or raid my saveings again.

Good to see you've made the jump along with a few other DF'ers and yes, it could get expensive :D
