Sorry for this and when I have seen threads before,I have felt, make your own mind up:),but,I am in the predicament that my friends have found themselves in before.:(

I love my,sorry Andy's :) Bessa R3a,which I always try to take with me for slide(Velvia 50),but, this time I am determined to take a different camera. So please help.

Lenses are not a problem, covered from 28mm through to 50mm primes on all camera,s

My choice is.

Nikkormat FT3.
Nikon F3.
Nikon FM2n.
Nikon FE.
Nikon FA.
Nikon F5.
Nikon F100.
Or Rolleiflex SL35E.

See the problem. I will be taking some night shots in Valencia and the rest will be street work and land and sea scape's ,the other films will be Ektar 100,Sensia 200,Portra 160VC and some Acros.

My P&S will be my newly obtained Vivitar 35ES,a beautiful f1.7 lens and I will be packing my Redsnapper tripod with ballhead.

If it were me I think it would be the F100, it just does everything well.

I would also consider giving your R3a back to its original owner who cries himself to sleep every night.....:'(

If they're all reliable, I'd just take the lightest; I think I've been cycling too long...

Take the FE for street shots, carrying around and general snapshots. It is light, full featured and aperture priority means no faffing about.

Also pack the F100 for landscape and night shots; for when you want a bit more precision, excellent metering and more accuracy with long timed exposures.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing with all those different models so by suggesting the FE, I am being a little biased perhaps. However it is imo a joy to use....simple yet efficient.

Enjoy your holiday!

F100

I have considered that on many occasions, but, each one never lasted more than a nano second.:). I like the F100 pick as I did not think that may come out of the pack, thanks, Andy.

I think? 20-40 year old and all that, they are all as reliable as you would like the believe them to be. weight is not a problem as I am staying with my Sister who after 45 years living in Spain and married to my brother in law Casto could carry me and the camera.:) So pick one Steve.

Thanks,Asha,I was sort of saving the FE for Nice,so you could show me how to use the camera to it's best.:)

Another F100, thanks Nick,I have not used the camera much yet,so it is creeping into the front spot at the moment.

Ah in that case, take em all :D. I know next to nothing about Nikon Film cameras but if they're as nice to use as my FG then I'd not fancy that choice.

I'll be persuading you to leave your FE at home and use mine so you can bring something else out that I've never had a chance to play with...... :D

OH Steven, I have an FG,did I not mention that, well you have to draw the line somewhere.:)

Did I read somewhere that the F5 is the only camera that meters in colour rather than grey?

Looking at that, it sounds b*ll*cks, but I'm pretty sure it was in the book on exposure... that's now gone back to the Library! Anyway, there's lotsa colour in Spain, problem solved.

PS I've only held a Nikon once, when Steven's FG briefly passed through my hands... it felt like a really well-balanced camera, unlike most of those hulking monsters you guys bring to film meets!

That sounds a lot like Ken Rockwell's Nikon F5 review actually - he really seemed to like the colour matrix meter.

Quote from Sir Ken of Rockwell "The F5 offers 3D Color Matrix metering with all AF-D, AF-I and AF-S lenses. Older (pre-1993) AF lenses lose the 3D ability, and still offer color matrix metering"

If your night photography includes the CAC you'll be wanting to take a pretty wide lens.

That sounds quite impressive though wether it is in "real" terms, I wouldn't know having never used an F5.

In the same review, Ken does mention that the F5 is heavy so perhaps not ideal for taking on holiday ..... travel light and all that ....do any of us filmies ever travel light? :D

I've got a free morning on Saturday so heading up the hills and trying to decide if I need anything to go with the RB67 and the Pinhole... Probably.

F100 for my Money

It does indeed and I will be taking my 16-35mm Nikkor. leaning towards the F100 as the F5 is just to heavy and I am flying easy jet. :)

Having had to check all the kit and batteries for the trip,I thought you would like to know that I have decided on the F100 together with my Vivitar 35ES. I am taking a little more time over the lens choice.:)

Thank you all for your input,it was most helpful.

Almost in the bag now, flying mid-afternoon,here is the list.

F100.
Sigma 24mm super-wide.
Nikkor 28-80mm G lens, the plastic fantastic and probably the best sleeper Nikkor for both film and Digital(sorry should not have given that away,if you have not got one,the price will rocket) :)
Vivitar 35ES f1.7 for B&W
and sorry to have to say this, but,it completes the set my Fuji X-E1 plus 18-55mm lens which I am only using for the CAC in Valencia. Also I need to show details of the dynamic range performance for Asha.

Film. 2x Velvia 50,Ektar 100,reala 100,Portra 160VC and Acros 100. slowish films for a bright climate should be interesting.:thumbs::D

Oh forgot to say Redsnapper tripod for the night shots and lots of filters and my light meter.
