Hi All,

I'm considering buying the nifty fifty just for some portrait photos, the ef 50mm 1.8, approx £60-£70, but was wondering, is there a lens people normal class as the next one up after that, without shelling out a load more.

Just interested.

Thanks

Next one up would be the Canon 50mm f/1.4

or the sigma 50mm f1.4

both are nice but i'm not sure you'll notice that much over the nifty except in build quality

personally i'd get a nifty, then think about complementing it with an 85 f1.8 or a 30mm f1.8 depending on whether you like wider or norrower

Depends on how close you need to get to your subject, or how far away. Depends if you are using a FF or crop camera? Details please.

i quite like the 40mm f2.8 pancake lens rather than the 50mm f.18
it's nice n sharp , reasonably well built and small
also another vote for the 85mm f1.8 but i think that lens is more suited to full frame
if you have full frame then should definitely be a consideration

What Pete said, get the 50mm then save a bit for the 85mm it's my favourite lens, fast sharp gorgeous and I shoot crop.

I always had a 135 on film though.

Thanks for the advice guys!
