Next Camera My Final Three..

Big minus on the 60D, no autofocus adjust. K5 is much higher spec than the other two, Nikon lighting control and auto white balance is superb. What about used, Pentax K20D, just sold mine for £250 !, Canon 50D has been mentioned, which does have autofocus adjust ir a used Nikon D7000, going for about £650 now. I only swapped from pentax as now shooting for money, I can get a lens etc. anywhere and quickly in a disaster situation. As a hobbyist it never bothered me that the latest and greatest from third party manufacturers were slower to get to Pentax ... I really miss the shutter AND apperture priority mode :'(

Paul, to be honest you 'should' be able to produce stunning images from any of these cameras, I would have swapped the 90 for the 7000 just to bring your choices up to date, camera 'feel' is a very important part of the choice, at the end of the day it's up to you, have you actually held any of them in your hands, if not that's the first thing to do, after that you may not need to ask any questions.
I'm sure you'll love whatever you end up with

Ha, you posted whilst I was typing lol

Hi SB.

I have tried many time's over the last week all three cameras but I have to say that the K5 and the 60 D do feel to have more quality.. and feel great in the handling department ( not knocking the D90 by the way)
My first and last camera was a Lumix GF 2 which I found way too small for my hands and it felt awkward.
Its funny really but if my wife was to go and choose my camera and she got the K5 I would say.. Awesome thats just what I wanted and if she got me the 60 D I would say... Awesome thats just what I wanted..
Funny innit.. :)
So its a close call at the moment.

PS. I have now joined this forum and yourself an others have helped no end with good infomation so many thanks to you all.

Could you explain the... no autofocus adjust.. please.

Question.. which is easier to use, I know this sounds daft but I'm still a learning novice..

To be honest Graham, they are all as easy as you want them to be, just stick them on auto and fire away, learning to get the best from them however is like anything else, practice, practice and practice, they all come with comprehensive manuals which may seem daunting and sometimes might as well be in a foreign language but don't let that deter you, if you're having problems with some aspect just ask, don't be afraid, the only stupid question is the one not asked.
Now get your backside down the shop and buy one :lol:

The only way is to handle them and see what seems most 'intuitive' to you. For me it was the D90 (though now I'd probably go for a D7000) - it just felt 'right' to me. You'll not be disappointed by any of them.

I would go in favour for the Canon 60D also. Newer model out of the three and a great intermediate camera.

Just got back from the camera shop in Malaga after looking at the K5 and the 60 D, this has really helped, because looking at them both at the same time has made my choice a little easier.
So I will order the Canon 60 D on Wednesday 7th of Dec and hopefully be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday of the following week.
This was a close call and could of gone either way.. but the feel in my hands of the 60D just had the edge.

Cheers :)

That's why I got it. I chose it over the 7D for the articulated screen.

You won't regret it.

When you have learnt to switch on and take photographs and feel confident, switch to manual and really "learn" photography.

Dead right this is now the time for me to start learning more about cameras and photography.. experimenting should be fun.

sorry if a bit late with this ... Most lenses do not focus perfectly where the focus target locks on, due to manufacturing tolerances. Micro focus adjust lets you dial out this error for each lens and the camera will remember the settings for each lens. Sorry but this is a major mistake from Canon to delete this feature from the 60d, makes it look more consumer than prosumer.

OK.. Thanks Kevin.. :)

Following the last comment, I guess you may be wondering if you've made a mistake getting the 60D. Don't worry - you haven't. You've got the camera that feels right for you. In any case, my new A77 has micro adjust, and out of ten lenses that I own, only two need any adjustment, and only one of those two, a Tamron macro, is far enough out to notice in any but the most critical pixel peeking. The lenses you're likely to start off with will have relatively modest apertures which won't show up any minor discrepancies. I hope you enjoy your new camera. :)
Mike.

The 60 D did feel the better or best in what I tried.. :)

Thanks.

Thats a good point with reference to modest apperture but surely the plastic fantastic is one reason to buy a mid range Canon ?
