News Of The World - How delightful!

I didn't think it would be long before another Sunday newspaper came under fire.

It did tickle me when the BBC when discussing Amy Winehouse's death before

"News of the World showbiz correspondent xxxxxx has kindly agreed to join us on the phone".

Yeah, because he's got nothing better to do. Not as if he's preparing some crap for tomorrow morning.

Daily Mail

For though 27-year-old staff nurse Rebecca Leighton was arrested at dawn on Wednesday, she was last night charged only with criminal damage, causing damage with intent to endanger life, and theft. And, of course, she may yet be found to be completely innocent.

Treading carefully nowadays aren't they? Not long ago that would have been "Death nurse causes house price slump"

You seem strangely surprised.....

not sure what sounded surprised in that sentence, but I am not a little bit surprised. I wouldn't be shocked if much more doesn't come out. The decision to just close the paper down suggested to me from the start that it was going to get messy.

It is a new development....and in a thread about the development of this story.

Fairy Nuff :D

Not really sure it's a "new low" though, I get the feeling the depths (as alluded to by Brooks) haven't been plumbed yet, although just how much lower they can have stooped.....

True true, it was a pretty low standard to beat. But with them supposedly pushing forward "Sarah's Law" and with Sarah Payne's mother having a column thanking the paper in the last edition...and mention of that fact they could have been hacking a phone they gave her in a pretense to help her it does seem lower than the other stuff. That was all blamed on rouge reporters doing it on the fly, this smells more of premeditated plans to be able to get an secret inside to the story.

True, you'd wonder just why they'd need to do that though, when Payne would probably have told them anything they wanted to know if they'd just asked.

Apparently worse is still yet to come too :(

The hacking list already includes wives of soilders killed in the line of duty and the parents of murdered children, can it really get any worse

It was one of the lead stories on Ch4 News 3 weeks ago - basically The Grauniad are catching up.
