NEWER NOT BETTER??? 20D vs 40D

Doens't seem much difference in image quality (noise issues) between them. It's worth the upgrade for the dust delete and larger screen alone. Personaly I'm still waiting for canon to resolve the issues with the 1d mk3.

Just shows URL Not Found on my computer. :(

Loads OK here but that is one big web page!

Self cleaning sensor looks like a big plus!!!!!!!!!!! :D  :D

Would like to know more about the dust deleting software but certainly wouldn't buy a 40D for its high ISO performance:gag:

That is some review! The 40D appears to have more noise than the 20D... ?

Well we all knew what a good camera the 20D was anyway, and 2 mill pixels isn't that significant an increase, so with all those comparisons being full frame shots, we shouldn't expect to see any huge difference leaping at us.

The noise performance going by those tests is disappointing, but I've seen far better results elsewhere. Digital Revs have done some noise shot comparisons whch show a very marked improvement in noise.

I'm very interested in the 40D, as there is still a big advantage in a 1:6 crop sensor camera using long tele lenses, particularly for smaller birds and critters, so I'll wait and see what other reviewers think of it, but given it's pixel count, it should out -perform even the 21 million pixels of the 1DSMK3 when it comes to substantially cropping images. If you can fill that full frame sensor (Grizzlies in Alaska, but take spare underwear!) the advantages are obvious, but for Blue Tits in Bognor, or Squidgers in Sidcup, the 40D just might be the best Canon you can buy.

There's more to it than pixel count obviously, but with it's better AF, weather sealing, 14 bit colour, allegedly lower noise and other features it's looking extremely good from where I'm standing.

Hmmm only downside seems to be that the high ISO noise is not great, not bad, but not great.

Check out Digital Revs noise comparison test.

you'll forgive me, but they are trying to sell the 40D ;)

You're forgiven, and you do make a fair point anyway. ;)

Who's Roland anyway? I'll wait for the more established reviewers to give the camera a going over. ;) The thing about Roland's tests, is they're all fairly high key or at any rate lightish images, where noise is less of an issue, and at the size the images are reproduced they really don't mean that much to me. Darker images would have have been far more useful, and full frame crops, as the noise shows up worst at 1:1

This is just one review, and I wouldn't leap to judge the camera on it.

Its looking pretty good for the price range, though and must admit that I am sorely tempted :help:
