Hi everyone I have a Nikon D90 and Im off to take some photos of a concert soon I have been adviced to take my 70/300mm lens and use the Shutter priority mode ? at what shutter speed do you think I need to set

Rule of thumb is - use 1/(1.6 * FL), FL being focal length. For example at 70mm, use 1/100 sec.
However with this lens it will be difficult to achieve as it is very slow for low light environment. Take the fastest lens you have, preferably faster then f2 otherwise you'll struggle to get any useful pictures

Well thanks for that reply however I really know nothing about photograthy the only other lens I have is the Nikon 18/105mm so which one do you think will be best

What 70-300 lens do you have? I have had the 18-105 and in the dark you may struggle with it, especially with it's lack of VR, although all this depends on where your seats are.

edit: if it's the sigma and the stage is too dark it may hunt and hunt, if it's the nikon then you won't have this issue.

Well, I'm afraid neither of this lens is good enough for low light photography... Can't even say which one is better in this respect

Ok thanks for your reply however this will be mid day so low light shoud not be an issue

Ah, I assumed concert would be indoors. If it's mid day open air, then by all means take 70-300, it will work perfectly.
