I am looking to move into digital photography, I have used film SLR's and compact digita camersl I am looking for a good foundation to build on I am considering a Canon EOS 40d and a suitable lens.

I saw this deal on Tesco's

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-1015.aspx

I have lots of clubcard vouchers so I would make sense to buy from here to keep costs down

Is the supplied lens ok

well i had £150 worth and looking around the 18-56mm lens kit is around £600-£700 body is around £599 but the 17-85mm is a little more.

I am looking to photograph sporting events, motor racing and wild life, i have a sony 7meg camera for slipping into pocket

You are betteroff saving those £150 Tesco vouchers and get them converted to other vouchers, you can multiply the amount by 4 X!

It is normally for days out, holidays, etc. However you never know it could also be photography equipment!

By camera price buster the kit is about £30 more than the absolute cheapest (Comet) so if you can use vouchers to be able to afford it then it is not a bad price at all (Same as warehouse express).

If you can afford to pay a bit more however you may be worth looking into a kit that has the 18-55 and the 55-250 - then you have everything you need to do the sports and wildlife as well as a pretty reasonabel kit lens.
