Hi all,

I'm fairly new here so Hi to everyone. I've got a question about something relating to my Nikon D40. On every photo I shoot, i seem to have a couple of black 'blobs' on the photos. Sometimes these 'blobs' are in focus, and other shots they are out of focus. I've tried a different lens, and these 'blobs' still appear, I've also had a little look inside the body but cant see anything on the internal mirror plates (not sure of the technical term!).

In focus hi-lighted:

Out of focus hi-lighted:

Now, is it going to be easier for me to take it in somewhere and get them to look at it, or is it going to be something i can do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Ben ;)

welcome to earth..:D

i get funny marks at maximum aperture...it must be gremlins in the lens or on sensor

also, do you have the ultrasonic sensor cleaning turned on? (if the d40 has it)

Yer agreed, something on the sensor, happens to us all at some point

I got a mate to do mine with some sensor cleaning swabs and fluid as i was too scared to do it myself.

After seeing what he did, I feel confident to do it myself next time.

I had like 10 blobs on mine :gag:

There, "dust bunnies" you have a dirty sensor, clean it now!:D

A rocket blower and sensor brush should be tried first before any liquid or swabs used.

Ignore the problem and relist as......

Great UFO shots:lol:

thats what i thought the picture was about and those animals were in the way

isnt it cold just now:|

Thank you very much for the replies. Another complete newbie question, where is the image sensor on my Nikon D40??

Thanks again

Ben

its behind the mirror, if you look in the menu there should be a 'mirror lock-up' setting, then you can remove the lens and see the sensor

WHOA THERE FELLA!!

Before you go prodding in places you haven't prodded before (in the camera that is :D) answer these questions honestly:
1. Do you have an air blower and know how to use it? :rules:
2. Are you aware of how delicate the sensor is and how much it will cost to replace if you damage it? :gag:

If the answer to both is yes then take your time and make sure you don't touch the sensor with the blower or you'll be able to validate the answer to 2 above very soon :'(

If the answer to either question is no, then think VERY seriously about whether you need to do this yourself

The D40 doesn't have self-cleaning, by the way.

Thanks for all the help and advice, the 2 artefacts have been safely removed from my image sensor!

Ben

nice one... I hate dust!
Today i got filth on my focus screen and could see it every time i looked through the viewfinder.. I didn't want to mess with it in the field and make matters worse but it made me soooo mad to have to wait until i got home to sort it out.

Another 'muck' related item that bugs me is the smears i get on the LCD screen from my nose, breath etc.. when looking through the viewfinder.

I have just read this back and it sounds like i have OCD :bonk:
