Hi there, have only had my Canon 400D for 6mth..i started out just using it as a point and shoot, to get used to using different lenses etc and then progressed onto shooting in RAW mode on the 'P' setting.
I have now tried using the manual setting and have figured out how to work it from the guide book.. setting aperture and then adjusting shutter speed... but i am not sure how i know what aperture to use for different pictures/scenes.
Is there a guide or format for shooting landscapes,portraits, running water etc..that will tell me what aperture i should be looking at??
Thanks in advance..hope i make sense cos i'm a bit confused at moment!!:)

Hi Jenny

I found that this book, Understanding Exposure(revised edition) by Bryan Peterson quite helpfull as well :thumbs:

Thanks guys ... its appreciated...off to have a look now:)

And just to add to your reading there are some nice simple explanations of how the different settings relate to each other here

Ooh, I now understand stops and how you can interchange them between speed, aperture & exposure.

:thumbs::thumbs:

The 'Thanks' button is to your right...no, your other right...nearly...down a bit....there! ;)

What the hell is that for then?? :shrug:

MarkyH .. if your above comment was a dig at me...you will find I had already said thanks a few posts after my original
Not quite sure what you are getting at?? Appears the other newbies that have benefitted from this thread have also said thanks?

Robert... your guide was greatly appreciated,,,those see-saws made a lot of sense and i have printed it off to stick in my bag when i'm out and about:)
