Hello all.

Hope you don't mind me asking a question that has probably been asked a hundred times before.

Tried doing a search, but it is difficult to define sometimes.

Anyway, want to photograph some models with my 400d.

These are unfortunately of the car variety, not the people kind. :)

As such, I was wondering what lens would be best to shoot a 12 inch model from a max distance of half a metre, but preferably much closer?

Thanks.

Not Sure im afraid but would think a standard 18-55 kit lens would be fine, just your minimum focus distance is the real issue i think.
Im sure a more learned individual will pass by.

what lenses do you have, a macro is probably the best answer

Currently have the 18-55 kit lens, a 50mm F1.8 and a 55-200mm F4-5.6.

Obviously the 55-200 is no good. The 50mm you have to be half way across the room to get the whole car in shot and the 18-55 can't focus close up.

I have taken some shots with the 18-55 and 50, and they weren't bad, but I would like some close up detailed shots which I have been unable to get up till now.

you will need a macro lens if you want to get closer or maybe some extension tubes

Sounds interesting. Thanks.

One question though, would I have trouble focusing close up with my 50mm with the extension tubes fitted?

Thanks again.
