I've watched the excellent snapfactory vid on youtube about sync speed and have a question.

On my Nikon D70s in manual mode the camera won't take a picture when the flash is on and the shutter speed seems limited to 1/500. Is this an automated feature with the camera to stop sync speed problems or something else?

I was trying to create a 1/2 black image just for the hell of it so I could see the problem in action. i.e. only 1/2 the image receives light as the 2nd shutter curtain is blocking the rest of the image.

Thanks for any help

I tried to do this with my D40x, just to see what happens.

But i'm limited to 1/200 which is the sync speed of the D40x.

I suspect you'll need to use an external non dedicated flash to get the camera to fire above the sync speed.
