Newbie needing some advice please

Hi,

I'm new to the forum although I'm not actually into photography. My boyfriend wants a Nikon 1.8d 50mm lens for xmas but I want it to be a suprise as he thinks I'm getting something else. He did mention that the forums would be the best place to find a well looked after second hand lens but obviuosly I can't view the classifieds.

Can anyone advise me where the best place to buy this lens from, given I can't view the classifieds? Is there a way for me still to buy from the forums? I am sure he is a member but not sure that really helps me..

Any advice would be great as time is running out...nothing like leaving everything to the last minute :bonk:

Hi, Amazon is often a good start. I can see they have it for £98.94 at the moment. You might get it a bit cheaper new on ebay although you often get what's called greymarket stock (where the item will be the real deal but shipped from Hong Kong or somewhere similar and therefore it won't have a warranty you can use in the UK if there's anything wrong with it) through ebay sellers.
 
you say you waqnt it to be a suprise - yet your boyfriend told you the forums would be the place to look for a 2nd hand lens - that doesnt make sense to me, even more so asd he's a member of this forum- Bang goes your suprise then :shrug:

Hi, thanks for the replies.

He told me he wanted a few things and where to get them from but I said I would get one of the other things. Also I'm pretty sure he doesn't view posts in the newbies section so pretty sure the suprise remains. Either way, looks like ebay will be my best bet, thanks!
