Hi there guys im looking at purchasing a new camera my limit is about £280 now i want to be able do catch great images tho i need some help.

ive been looking at bridge cameras and the fujifilm s8200 is intresting
yet they do a nikon dslr tho it only has 14 megapixels ?

now should i be looking for more megapixels or what ? ones with interchangble lenes?

any help appricated cheers jack

Hey Jack,

It all depends on what you require out of a camera to be honest! Are you looking to get experimental with the camera or literally use it to take quick snaps of family and holidays etc?

14MP will be ample, dont get hung up on the more is better, I'm still largely using the 40D which has 10 , but some of my best shots were taken on a 20D with only 8 - that said if you are buying a DSLR don't forget you'll also need lenses , which might be stretching with that budget so if the budget is fixed you might be better off with a bridge.

cheers, for the quick replys i will be using it to take pictures of horses at small shows and also motorcycles at circuts and just about. how much are lenes and what ones would i need. sorry to sound such a noob!

I agree on MP. My brother in law shoots for C Laboutin (if that's how you spell his sirname) and he still uses his 20D in 8MP without issue. It all depends on what you want out of the size of the image, for £280 you're looking at a 40D with a kit lens which is still a cracking camera (I must stress that this is second hand pricing). I would stick with second hand as you know it'll be looked after, look on the classifieds once you gain access as you'll be limited at the moment due to post count and being a member under 60 days old etc :)

Good idea Jack, start off small, end up being skint in the future ;)

It took me 6 weeks to convince my wife that I had to spend £4300 on my camera ;)
You won't regret it though, bridge cameras are good, but when people ask me for advice (friends / family etc) I always stress that a point and shoot is good in a phone, if you want to take real photos, get an SLR as your glass will be the only limit etc :)

The 40D was my wife's first real camera, she wouldn't take lessons from me so I had to 'pay' for her to go to a training studio to use it but it was a god send at the time, live view really pulled her in but once she got the idea she realised that Live view was a gimick ;)

It's all about the eye piece :)

to be honest if you want to use it for action at circuits etc you'll need something longer than a kit lens - at a bare minimum you could look at something like the 50-250 (thats canon - i don't know about nikon)

you won't get a 40D , a kit lens, and a 50-250 in your budget, but you could look at an older but still capable body like a 20 or 30D (don't forget to also budget for a memory card, and a couple of batteries)

Take a look at MPB for decent second hand kit - if you don't want to wait the 60 days (and 25 posts) to get classifieds access here
