Hi Guys! Been out having fun with my Panasonic Lumix FZ7 but I'm having difficulty taking pictures of moving objects. I've been trying to get a trail effect but when I set the Shutter speed to more than 1 I just get a bright white image!? Presumably theres something I'm doing wrong? I can set the Aperture and Shutter speed on a manual exposure and can also change the ISO from between 80 and 400 but the various combinations I've tried give me that same Bright white image.

any advice welcomed!

Have a look at this explanation of the basics which should explain why you are over exposing the picture.

If you want long exposures in daylight then you need to cut down the light getting in to the camera with a neutral density filter - kind of like sunglasses for cameras :)

You need to be shooting in low light and choose the slowest iso you can and the smallest aperture, If that's still giving you over exposed shots you'll have to look for neutral density filters (ND) to fit in front of the lens. They come in various strengths, 2,4,8 and even 16 I think. They block light from entering the camera so that you can use a slower shutter speed.

/edit RP got there first.

Ah ok - had a quick read and it seems that on Shutter Priority my aperture is set for me, but getting the same results so I think a filter is going to be my solution. TYVM forthe help!
