Guys I've been a long time viewer and a low level poster for some time but 2012 is the year I put my canon eos 400d paperweight to its full use.
I have always been interested in photography but have really only ever used point and shoots, despite having a dslr in my armoury. I always felt a fraud going out with this camera and taking mediocre photos when I actually got better results with my point and shoot.
No more. The past few days have seen me embrace what can be done and I am embarking upon a sponge like learning curve.
I am interested in some landscapes, nature, the water, the stars and motorsports.
Between now and April, when the British Superbikes grace Brands Hatch I will be working on some panning techniques. While I am out walking the dog I will be opening my eyes to what's around me and snapping it.

I am a total novice and am already confused about f stops this, and aperture that and ISO low or high.
To date the arsenal consists of:
Canon eos 400d with kit lens
Sigma 70-300
Manfrotto 190xdb with 391rc2 head
Hahnel hrc280 remote shutter cable release
2x Lexmark 4gb 200x compact flash
Hoya 58mm nd4 filter
The digital photography book by Scott Kelby
( I have to list everything as there isn't much)

I will be exploring lots and seeing what I like and will be asking for critique continually.

This weekend I'm in hunt of water, the dog will be pleased.
