Hi, I have joined this site in the hopes that people living in the locality (and those far away of course) can help me learn how to use my EOS 60D.

I am tired of using my camera phone and wanted a "proper camera" that would help me take good pics but also provide me with the challenges of going "off automatic menu" so that I can learn how to use the camera with some knowledge of what I'm doing and creatively.

So, if you feel up to helping a complete numpty then please get in touch.

Would you believe it I was just looking at your web site, Wow. I had just done a search for clubs in Newport and your posting came up with your question about clubs. So I thought I would try and track you down.

So, you beat me to it. As a complete numpty, novice, newbie call it what you will I am incapable of using my 60D other than attempting to use the set styles on the control dial. Since I'm a single guy I don't do family snaps and holidays. However I would like to develop skills in camera use and in particular, Landscapes, wildlife and Cityscapes.

Did you find a club?
 
Yes I've been to the Newport club a couple of times but as they meet on a Friday it's not ideal. I've now approach the Gwent club that meet in Rogerstone on Thursday nights but they are not taking anymore members this year so will have to wait until January.

The best way I've found of meeting other togs is to go on the TP meets which in our area means the Breacon Beacon Loonies, they go landscaping every couple of months or so. Into Landscapes and Nature myself but have a lot to learn still.
 
You are joking of course! I saw the photos of Southerndown. Been there a few times looking for inspiration but I didn't see what you did. I am thinking of doing the photo course at Charles Street to see if I can learn about the camera and photography. It all seems a bit complicated to me. Newport has some great architecture but I never have the guts to try to take any photos of it.
