I have:

Canon 500d with kit lens (18-55mm)
Canon 55 - 250mm lens

Lowepro Rezo 160 bag - just too small! Cant take back as was from Amazon and took tags off. Ahhh

You sure? I'm sure standard returns policies apply - I've bought stuff from shop, took the tags off then decided to return them for whatever reason. Never had a problem. Check amazon's returns policy......

when you say "off amazon" is it from a shop, selling through amazon? If so, try contacting the shop, if you explain that its too small but would like to purchase a larger bag I'm sure they'd be more accommodating to a return, though I do think they are obliged to accept the return anyway?

Failing that, christmas is coming and I'm sure it'll sell well either on here or T'bay!

That's a bag I have, and it held my Sony A230 with kit lens, plus a Sony 75-300 lens. They were a snug fit, but not so much that it was a problem.

I have that bag too, and used it well with my 450D plus 18-55, and 70-300IS, plus a lens hood, filter and polariser and cleaning stuff.

I thought it was ideal for those tings. I've since upgraded to a Lowepro Slingshot 202, but will keep the Rezo for when I need to travel light.

Yeah I've got two bags... one that came with my D60 and just about holds the body and a couple of lenses and a bigger one that I can fit loads of gear into.

Always handy to have the option of a couple of bags, nice if you're going somewhere with little kit and want to be desecrate or somewhere that you just need to take a lot of kit.

You're not the first person to buy a bag that turns out to be too small and you won't be the last.

Keep it in the cupboard for when you want to go out with a reduced outfit - it can be quite liberating taking just a couple of lenses out rather than a full range.

You can't have too many gear bags.. sometimes you need more kit, sometimes you want to travel light..

I have the camera face down in the middle of the bag - so lens on the bottom. Is that the best way? In reviews and comments above people think its a fair size so maybe I need to pack it better

I split the bag into two with the divider. The zoom stands vertically on one side and the camera with standard lens faces downwards on the other side. Give that a go.

I can also stand the zoom inside the lens hood in the bag.

You can usually find some decent bargains in the classifieds, or on a certain auction site so is prolly worth just splashing out on a new bag as people above have said... can never have too many bags (although that sounds suspiciously like something my gf would say!)

Can you post a shot of the set up, be interesting just for reference.
