Old camera from many years ago. New CR5 battery and Kodak 200 ISO film loaded and it sprung into life.

Standard kit lens.

First of all - I panicked because I could not turn it off. Then I remembered that on the L (off) mode it still shows the number of shots left, but it's actually off !

Anyway, any advice before I step back in time is greatly appreciated.

I had the model without the flash. I threw it away a few years ago as the shutter got “sticky” and only later found out it was easy to fix.

Hello, I remember the EOS1000FN being very popular and offering a lot of bang for your buck. It does have some drawbacks as some functions are tied into specific exposure modes and it can be tricky to trigger it without camera shake. There were and in fact still are after market cable release adapters for it which work with varying degrees of success.
I'm going to have to consider if listing my own videos on threads like this is quite the done thing or not however for now here is some shameless self promotion. I have made a video about the earlier but similar EOS 1000F which might be handy if you are new to film photography and also one on the cable release adapter.
My YT channel is just a hobby but if mods wish to take down this post as it is self promotion then please do so. I also think Peter Elgar, also here a menmber, may have made a video about the this as well.

Thank you, that was helpful and explains where the 1000FN sat in the product line up. I clearly remember paying £75 second hand for mine, around 25 30 years ago with the kit lens.
