Newbie - A200 lens question

Hi All,

I've just got my first SLR for Xmas, Sony A200. I have a LOT to learn, but I'm reading up and playing with the camera whenever possible.

I was told about the compatible Minolta Beercan lens (80-210mm), so asked at work if anyone had one for sale - no such luck, but worth a try!

However somebody is selling this "Marexar - CX zoom lens 80 -205mm F4.5 for Minolta MD". Would it be compatible, if so is it worth bothering with? I cannot see any reviews, or prices online.

What minolta mounting, or any other 'keywords' should I be looking for if I see a lens for sale?

hi blonkster...

although i can't be 100% certain,i don't think the minolta MD lens are compatible with the sony alpha range..or at least auto focus with the camera.you need to be looking at minolta AF lens,of which the beercan is one of the best,although i'm sure it's a 70-210 lens and not an 80-210 lens(F/4).minoltaAF and sony lens share the same A mount system,and apart from the beercan,the 50mm F/1.7 lens is another beauty.both the beercan and 50mm F/1.7 are available on e-bay,but due to they're popularity growing,command higher prices as bids are driven up.i paid £40 for my 50mm a year or so back,and they are now going for around the £100 mark.

Thanks to you both.

I'll stick with my kit lens for now, and look out for cheap beercan - if one ever appears!
