Hi Guys/Girls

New to the whole DSLR thing and have joined for advce and information. I have been using a Pentax Optio W60 for the last few years, mainly for Mountaineering stuff and some family type photos.

I have dicided to upgrade to a Sony DSLR and hopefully be a little more creative. The choice of Sony is based on my available cash and the fact that I can use existing Minolta lenses that I already own. The real question though is which Sony to go for, I have got it down to the A200 or A230. What are the views on these 2, I'm not too fussed about looks etc just the actual performance? Cheers for any thoughts.

the a200 i've read has more feature than a a230 despite being older.

i've got an a200 and i love it :)
 
I have an a330 and really like it. I know that the a330 has Live View and a tilt screen but the a230 is virtually identical. To really decide, it might be helpful to go to cameralabs.com. He has some really good reviews on many different cameras. His overall score for the a230 is 81%, while the a200 has an overall score of 85%. Check it out, and if you can, handle them yourself.
 
I started with an A200, and still keep it as a second body (or for when I want something smaller and lighter than the A700 for 'snaps').

The A230 is smaller than the A200, and does not have the AE Lock button the A200 has. It also uses SDHC rather than CF cards.
It does have an 'improved' user interface, but my recollection is that this would be more of interest to a first time (D)SLR user, who needed to know what the effect of adjusting aperture would be, for example.
 
The a230 can use both kinds of cards: SD and Memory Stick Duo (my bad), because it has a double card slots.

Actually the A230 can only use SD or MS Duo, no CF.
 
Well I have done it now, picked up a boxed A200 with lens and memory card for £170 off Ebay. Many thanks for the replies I shall post some results soon.
