Evening all :)

I have owned my 'first' DSLR (Fuji S1pro) for about 3 years now, but feel its getting a bit tied. Don't get me wrong it still takes good pictures but if I'm being honest its never really been suitable for the kind of photography I enjoy (motorsport)..... So here is my dilemma. I have a budget (set by the Governor indoors ;) ) of around £400-450 and I have decided that I want a Canon. I've been looking at the 450d and it seems perfect for the job, but considering its at the top of my budget I would be stuck with the kit lens for a while until funds allow.

The only other option I see is to buy something like the 20d and then maybe have enough money left over to buy a semi good lens as well ? ...

I have looked at the reviews/sample pics for both of them and would be happy to own either of them.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Thanks Martyn

What glass have you got? if you have anything decent I'd stick with Nikon to be honest a second hand D200 springs to mind, welcome by the way

D200 seems logical.....for the money..

Thanks for the replies so far guys! ......Nikon's like Fuji's seem to suffer with more noise in general than Canons, even at ISO 100....That is one of the main reason for me wanting to make the change.

As for glass, I haven't got anything that special to be honest, just a couple of Sigma's ..... 28-70mm 1:3.5-4.5 and 75-300 1:4-5.6 ...

Suppose it would save a few penny's but not really a deciding factor to be fair.

You aren't going to see a significant difference between a D200 and a 20D in a noise race @ iso 100, if anything the 20d will produce more aliasing.
Choose the 20D over the D200 for cheapness, not for noise control.
Choose the 400D for newer technology and nothing else, its a base model and doesn't compare in a million other departments to a 20D or a D200.
Above all, choose the body that'll do the job you want it to do, with the least amount of aggravation..

My opinion, Save some more cash and get a 40d with some good glass, dont waste your cash with a 400d or a 450d.

Maybe a cheap 30d for around the £300 mark and some cheap second hand glass perhaps? Just until you can afford to get some better lenses?

Get a D200, alot of Canon guys and girls have been converted to it after seeing the shots i get from my gear :)

and I have to say that the Canon bodies in the same price range feel very cheap and tacky compared to my D200. Thats what made me go Nikon in the first place

never had a problem with noise on a D200 at iso 100 tbh

your lenses should be fine for now and save you alittle cash until you buy/save for more lenses and find the D200 a fanastic camera
