Title says it- getting frustrated with limitations of my bridge, and thinking about investing in probably a canon 500d. apart from the 18-55mm 'kit' lens, if i was going to purchase some more glass, what would be advised?

i would primarily be photographing cars and landscapes.

thanks

I think that'd be a good place to start off. Very good little DSLR and the kit lens isn't SO bad - especially just to start off with.
If you have a bit more of a budget, perhaps consider something like the Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 - I have one and it's rather nice, for the price - probably around £150 second hand, or perhaps check out the Canon 17-85 which gets some good reviews, it was the kit lens with the original 40D kits I think.

For the cars you'd probably need something longer (if it's racing) - so perhaps the 55-250 would be a good shout. It gets very good reviews and has nice IQ and it's dirt cheap.

The original kit lens with the 500D isn't bad - but I thought I'd give you a couple of other options to think about.

See how you get on with the 18-55 (good for landscapes for now) and the 55-250 (for the cars) and then see what you need/lack and then go from there in a few more months time.

Hope that's some help! I'm rather tired - so hopefully it's all coherent!
