Which airline? Best price is Air Austria, London to New York but I feel virgin or American airlines would be a better choice but a little more expensive....any one with experience trans Atlantic?

Why do you think they'd be better? Have you researched Air Austria? What do the reviews say?

Mixed bag of of reviews to be honest....this is why I thought that the worldly wise TPers could give me a penny's worth.....Mrs A is driving me mad for not booking

Iirc they are a budget airline. The cheapest I have seen is Norwegian air who is another budget airline. No food, drinks etc... So similar to flying Ryanair v BA

Torn between Norwegian and Virgin when we go to New York. From memory I think Virgin are double the price. Now Ryanair have lots of bad reviews but I like them as you can't argue with cologne stansted return for £20!!!

I've went with Aer Lingus, BA and Virgin, all were good, just a matter of finding out who will give you the best deal.

I booked all mine through Expedia, flew Delta but booked Virgin flight. Cost through Expedia was less than half of what I could get direct with the airlines, but had to book hotel through Expedia as well... But still saved a fortune overall.

4 nights at CitizenM plus Virgin Atlantic flights for two came in at £1100.

Virgin Upper Class  best experience I've had, the included limo transfer to Manhattan is quite nice as well...

Great price. I am awaiting flight prices to be released for next March but I was expecting £1500/1600. Anything less will be great.

My only thoughts on this are avoid AA - most others are pretty good.

I often fly BA as I get air miles through work (and normally aren't really any more expensive than anyone else) but I always make sure to avoid the flights that are run by AA.

I've not flown them but I would expect Austrian to be decent enough and in reality a flight to NY isn't long enough to really worry about the comfort unless you happen to be 6'6".

This needs a part 2? o_O

Of course it does... I need drama in my life and I need to be the centre of attention....:D

Very well.
Then BA would be very low on my list.

Yep, to be fair my last long haul flight with them was to NYC and it sucked by their usual standards.

I think the best advice is to just go with whoever's cheapest and gets you there and back at the times you want. They're all much of a muchness really and it's only 7 hours.

Flying east is great, Malaysian, Emirates, Thai, Ethiad are all fab. Trans Atlantic the options are a bit more limited...

If you have the time, flying via Iceland is very cheap and you can stay in Iceland a few days as a stop over - that's what I'd do if I had the time.

5 hour 40 minutes for us coming back from JFK to Manchester... Tail wind was insane!

If you can wait another year titanic 2 should be built ,go in style

Flown Virgin for the last three times - first was economy but paid and extra £30 for extra leg room seats. Other times in Premium Economy which is pretty good. Booked first two through Expedia as it was cheaper but last one direct as had air miles to spend. Flew Virgin to Antigua and have always had a good experience.

went two weeks ago(booked it a few days prior )package from B.A. £1280, for 2 of us,inc 6 nights half board near times square, perfect

...and if you can fly to Newark as the journey in (if you use a car service) is quicker than JFK. We have always used Dial7 who have proved reliable every time (even turned up in a stretch limo the first time) and very easy to book on line and their customer service on the phone is good too.

why not break your journey in Dublin ? All immigration/customs etc is done there before flying - saves a high amount of time when you land.

I arrived at Dublin Airport and 35 mins later was at the departure gate - through security and everything !!

Actually my post was meant to indicate my lack of interest, but thanks for the link anyway :)

Always makes me chuckle when folks demonstrate their lack of interest by posting about it

Depends, when we went to Florida last year were through in around 5-10 minutes!

Oh, whatever you do, make sure you have Uber, it is amazing in NYC.
