Another one of those dreaded threads! Next month we're headed to the big apple for a few days - kit wise I'm torn between;

Panasonic G80, 12-35 2.8, 35-100 2.8 and the Leica 25mm 1.4.

Canon M50, 22mm, 17-50 2.8 and maybe the canon 200 2.8 or the M55-200.

Sony RX10 3


Whichever of the above, I'm thinking of taking the Lecia X1 as well for going out in the evening for snaps then, as Iv'e got a fantastic mini tripod that would go well with it.
I gather a lot of others on here have been on similar trips, any real world suggestions? Its not a photo holiday, its a special holiday (indeed will be the "popping the questions" too!) but I obviously want some decent pictures and memories. Might even squeeze in the Sony HX90 as well as that is insanely small just in case!

I took 1 body and 1 lens and a gorilla pod.

Take something small with a flip screen for the selfies with the missus.

You definitely want as wide as you can get, NYC can be pretty tight on some blocks, if you want to get full buildings in. Either your 12-35 on the G80 or the 17-55 on the M50 should suffice, how big is the 17-50 though? I don't think you'll need the longer lenses so much. The 12-35 + 35-100 would be loads, keep it light, you will be walking a lot! You will find you're shooting wider mostly.

I was there before the tower was finished also @Raymond Lin - we were too late by the time we made it over to the memorial grounds for a tour, got a few eerie shots in the fog though

I used my 20mm loads in my D750, although the X100T got a lot of action. A few with the 50mm and 85mm too. The M50 with your prime and zoom would be perfect.

Just my VHO but I'd seriously just take one camera and one lens and use it very sparingly. Concentrate on what's important, paying attention to your partner and being there as a couple. If your partner is photography mad too then ignore what I've just said :D
 
I took a 10-20 and 17-50 for a crop when i went. The 10-20 stayed on the camera the whole time.
 
I think everyone has their own style, I went for a 35mm because everyone do go for the wide angle so I stayed away from it plus I am a big advocate of the 35mm.

On the other hand maybe take enough gear in case you get a knock back and want something to occupy your time :)

Just a holiday! For the selfies = Sony HX90 is a peach, esp with Smile Shutter!

True! That was my thinking, in either the Panasonic or Canon flavor, the prime are perfect!

True! No she doest give a damn! Thats why I'm thinking something good and small.. but good being the key word!

Good point! I hope note (she's certainly pushing more for me to ask then the other way) so I don't think I wil.. if I do, I'm easy its a big city to explore and we'll both be asleep on the way home!
 
As above, don't take too much kit - in my experience you will be doing a lot of walking around.

I loved NYC, probably my favourite place I've been. I took my EM1, 12-40mm f2.8 and 40-150mm f4-5.6 R. I used the 12-40mm for 99% of my shots.

These images prove you don't need a big full-frame system to take great photos. I sometimes have the odd thought about getting a Fuji APS-C or even a Olympus M4/3 system :o
 
Of course you don't, it's always been about the tool behind the camera that matters most :D I don't know why you're shocked for thinking of Olympus, great camera and lenses, I'm sure many rich folk use them :P
